She began her teaching career in 1988 as an assistant professor at The University of the Pacific and worked in various administrative positions on the campus until 2006. She then served three years as Provost and Chief Operating Officer at Andrews University and, from 2009 to 2017, served as president and CEO of Pacific Union College.
