well as Schuyler Brown Land Title. A travel enthusiast, Heidi
Scott of Illinois had the opportunity to cross Europe in her mid-
20s using a Europass, and her journey included boat travel
both from Italy to Greece and from Ireland to Scotland.
Scotland is linked with Northern Ireland by a pair of ferry lines,
the Stena Line's Cairnryan-Belfast Ferry and the P&O's
Cairnryan-Larne Ferry. Both of these depart several times
each day, arriving and departing from Cairnryan, and take
around two hours.
A picturesque village overlooking Loch Ryan, Cairnryan is
worth exploring as part of the journey. It was founded in the
early 1700s and emerged as a major staging post for coaches
that ran to the larger town of Ayr to the north. With a lengthy

3. World War II, as it was used for building floating Mulberry
harbors, which were employed effectively during the D-Day
invasion on the beaches of Normandy. Each of the two
Mulberry harbors floated on pontoons, and offered six miles of
flexible steel roadways, with pier-head capacity to move
7,000 tons of supplies and vehicles from vessels to shore each
day.
