1. The most outstanding, inspiring improvement activities are alive and
kicking across the country, delivering change for thousands of patients
2. There are outstanding examples of capability building for improvement
around the country but it isn’t happening everywhere
3. We want to use the language of “improvement” rather than “QI”
4. The community of local improvement leaders want to learn from each
other, share and connect; the role of national teams is to enable that
5. Engage staff and patients at the point of care in co-production – work
together to make improvement happen
6. We have to understand WHY we are doing this, not just focus on the
WHAT and the WHEN
7. We need a talent pipeline for future leaders of improvement
8. There are many tensions in the system that improvement leaders have
to balance; improvement and regulation; organisations and systems;
compliance and commitment; population and individual etc
9. Build systems for learning and improvement, not just implement
“projects”.
10. Liberate our NHS staff to lead improvement; they have the motivation,
values, skills, ideas and relationships to make big changes happen
