Fire Fighting
Natural gas is the main fire supply in the Fire Training Unit (FTU), but the burning of kerosene in the
engine room is an extra option. While gas fires are burning, synthetic smoke can also be generated
in these areas to simulate real fire situations. An instructor uses plug-in pendants to control all gas
fires at the source and monitors all students’ actions. An inbuilt control room is manned during all
training sessions to maintain radio contact with trainees and to monitor ventilation, fires and emer-
gency lighting. The damage control reconstruction unit is also housed within the fire training unit and
it is used to simulate flooding damage to a ship. Delegates learn how to limit the damage and con-
trol the flooding.
