-uprisings in the Middle East and North
Africa
-the countries involved includes

a. Tunisia
b. Egypt
c. Libya
d. Yemen
e. Syria
This presentation will covers all the countries
mentioned earlier, on the basis of the:

a. History of the country
b. Factors leading to the revolution
c. Chronology of the revolution
d. Effects of the revolution
e. Conclusion
Tunisia.
-once ruled by the Ottoman Empire before the
French took it in 1881
-up until the revolution, the contry was ruled by
Pressident Zine El Abidine Ben Ali (1987-2011)
-started with the protest by Mohamed Bouazizi
on Dec 17 2010, where he ignited himself in
flames.
-it is a protest for economic hardship.
-after the start of the revolt, Zine ali’s reign
came to an end on Jan 15 2011.
-after the revolution, first election was done on
Oct 23 2011, where moderate islamist party
Ennahda won with it’s leader Rached
Ghannouchi
Tunisian Revolution
Egypt.
-ruled by Hosni Mubarak before the revolution.
-begin on 25 th Jan 2011, as a sign of solidarity
to Khaled Said
-after the revolution, elections took place where
Dr Mursi is elected as the new president
Libya.
-under the monarchy of King Idris before Gaddafi
overthrown the king, forming the Libya Arab
Republic
-Feb 15/ 16 2011 is the stat of the uprising
-UN voted for a no fly zone over Libya.
-Gaddafi killed on Oct 20th 2011, ending his rule.
Yemen.
-from the combination of the Yemen Arab Republic
and People’s Republic of Sothern Yemen, forming
the Republic of Yemen on May 22nd 1990
-led by Ali Abdullah Salleh
-uprising satrted on January 2011- Feb 2012
-battes such as battle of san’aaand battle of
zinjibar
-resigned on 27 feb 2012
Syria.
-known as the Arab Republic of Syria (1980
onwards)
-ruled by Hafez al-Assad and now by his son
Basheer al-Assad
-uprising started as a result of a domino effect
which had affected countries in the region
-Hassan Ali-Akleh underwent self-immolation on
26th Jan 2011.
-day of Rage on 15th March 2011
-still an ongoing struggle
