17. Isaac Watts 1674-1748
Isaac Watts was an English
Christian minister, hymn writer,
theologian, and logician. He was a
prolific and popular hymn writer
and is credited with some 750
hymns.
He is recognised as the "Father of
English Hymnody”.
He was a guest at Abney House
for 36 years and helped design
Abney Park with Lady Mary
Abney.
19. Margaret Graham 1796 - 1864
‘England's first female aeronaut'
English aeronaut George Graham
and his wife, Margaret, made
numerous balloon ascents in
Britain between the 1820s and the
1850s.
Many of these ended in disaster,
and the Grahams became as
famous for their good fortune in
surviving their adventures as for
their aeronautical skills.

‘England's first female aeronaut'
By the 1840s ascents by George
Graham had become rare, but
Margaret continued with her
aeronautical career, proclaiming
herself 'The Only English Female
aeronaut'.
Despite many near fatal
ballooning accidents, she survived
to die in her bed.

Known as 'The Animal King',
Frank Bostock travelled the world
with his menagerie of animals, lion
taming was a part of his show and
he kept his giraffes on Yoakley
Road.

Shot and killed whilst on duty
chasing two Latvian Anarchists
who had tried to rob a wage van -
later known as the Tottenham
Outrage.

30. William Booth 1829-1912
William Booth was a British
Methodist preacher who founded
The Salvation Army and became
its first General.
On 27 August 1912 Booth's funeral
service was held at London’s
Olympia where 40,000 people
attended, including Queen Mary.
