4. Amber continues to live through others because of her decision to be an ORGAN DONOR. To date, 5 people have received her gifts.
5. Her right kidney was transplanted into a 54 year old man from Kentuckysuffering from kidney disease. He had been on the transplant waiting list since November 2006 and has been on dialysis since January 2006. Dialysis is a process that individuals undergo three times a week for three to four hours at a time to remove toxins from the bloodstream when the kidneys are no longer able to function. It is a process that cannot be missed, meaning that these individuals do not have the freedom to travel or participate in activities that many people take for granted. With this transplant, he can look forward to a life free from this exhausting procedure. The transplant was a success.
6. Her left kidney was transplanted into a 40 year old women from Kentucky suffering from diabetes. She had been on the transplant waiting list since 2006 and has been on dialysis since 1998. The transplant was a success.
7. Her liver was transplanted into a 51 year old man from Kentucky suffering from liver disease. He had been on the transplant waiting list since July 2008. The transplant was a success.
8. Two recipients have been given the gift of sight by each of Amber’s corneas. One from Iowa and one from California.
9. The donation of her bone tissue will be formed into various grafts which will be used to treat a variety of orthopedic problems.Typical uses of donated bone include spinal surgery, hip surgery, treatment of severe injuries and repair of tendons and ligaments. Bone tissue can be stored for later use.
