Now for some gardening analogies to tell the story!
Varieties of the same creates beauty, however to introduce difference adds outstanding beauty & a better gardening outcome. Strengthening the pipeline for BAME leaders is critical and the evidence that diversity of thought & decision making creates better outcomes is being harnessed.
My organic protection just was not working on this hosta. I had to resort to none organic means to protect it. Einstein said : The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. The CNOBMESAG recognises that for decades the same approaches have been tried, yielding insignificant growth in BME representation in strategic leadership roles. Challenging measures are required. Imagine a role being advertised and only inviting BME candidates; well the Kings fund have and this sends a very powerful message.
My Hostas are my passion I will do whatever it takes to ensure their ability to display their glorious unique beauty is sustained. However, yesterday the roofer dropped a tool causing damage to my hosta, did I ignore it . Certainly not, I value what it has to offer and so have repaired & put stakes in place to support it. This is the approach to the damage caused by the experiences of BAME nurse students & registrants, creating an environment where despite damage their true strength and beauty will shine out.
Poppies grow and thrive where ever their seeds land, even in the stoniest of places.Given the freedom to thrive, BAME nurses can & will be flexible and demonstrate their outstanding intellectual capacity to stand out from the crowds and lead the delivery our health & social care system needs. Just maybe the evidence will speak for itself and the deliberate actions to strengthen BAME leadership will not be met with resistance.
