PARTNERING AND
RELATIONSHIPS Lendlease Consulting fully believes in the
benefits which long term Client relationships
and partnerships can bring in terms of efficiency,
delivery and Client satisfaction. A deeper, enhanced,
understanding and appreciation of longer term goals
can ensure all interim projects are sympathetic and
cognisant of the wider strategies. This partnering
approach also cultivates relationships and therefore
a mutual confidence and respect resulting in more
effective working in achieving the common goal.
An example of this is our long term relationship
with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation
Trust. From our first commission in 2005, the
Consulting Business of Lendlease has established
and developed a long term partnership and
relationship with Trust. Providing Healthcare for
more than 435,000 people across Calderdale and
Kirklees the Trust continues to modernise and
invest in their estate and health services to build
upon their reputation. During our partnership we
have developed a strong working relationship with
a number of staff in a cross section of departments
and divisions both clinical and non-clinical and
closely work with Estates and Facilities, Finance,
Procurement and Supplies, THIS as well as Infection
Control, Manual Handling and Cleaning Services on
a regular basis.
We have undertaken commissions for a full range
of services from feasibility studies and option
appraisals, Business Case preparation, designs and
cost reviews, surveys, delivery Project Management,
CDMC, Principle Designer and Commercial
Services as well as commissioning and validation
works. Projects we have managed during this
time include a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Unit (PMU), Clinical Re-provision and Planning
Exercise, boiler replacement, Lifts Replacement
Scheme, Paediatric Assessment and Observation
Unit (PAOU), Emergency Generator Replacement,
Ward and Theatre refurbishments, Haematology and
Biochemistry Laboratory works, major demolition,
asbestos removal and land remediation, new
Endoscopy Unit car parking reconfiguration and
external works programmes.

DUAL HYBRID
THEATRES
Lendlease Consulting is proud to have
managed this state of the art facility from
early feasibility and consultation stage
through design, procurement, delivery,
commissioning, training and handover.
The Theatres are believed to have been
the first dual “true” Hybrid Theatre suite in
Europe, consist of two cutting-edge, fully
integrated, Hybrid Theatres and a general
women’s theatre.
A key feature of the Hybrid Theatres is the
inclusion of a robotic C-Arm as, normally,
a theatre tends to be designed purely for
surgical purposes, with radiology and
diagnostics scanning equipment located
separately. These true Hybrid Theatres
combined the two, resulting in quicker
diagnosis of patients, in situ scanning,
resulting in reduced procedure times,
patient movement as well as patient and
infection control risks.
The project proved a substantial challenge
in coordinating and integrating a number
of bespoke and technically advanced fea-
tures including skirtless ultra clean canopy
(UCV), “Variop” powder coated modular
walling system, fully integrated theatre
system and specialist medical equipment.
This was compounded by its location sur-
rounded by Theatres, wards and directly
over four live Ophthalmic Theatres.
The design and sign off phases were
helped immensely by the use of BIM
from the outset which not only aided
in the co-ordination of the building and
service elements but also in providing
the clinical users a better 3D under-
standing of the new facility during the
user group design meetings.
LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT 13
EMERGENCY
DEPARTMENT
This new Emergency Department project was the
result of the 2013 Keogh report and subsequent
Care Quality Commission visits. They identified
the Emergency Department as a key strategic area
requiring urgent attention to improve services, patient
care and comply with current best practice guidelines.
Due to the complexities of delivering this new
department in a live Healthcare environment and
ensuring continuity of service and patient care several
decants and phases were required.
This major acute project is utilising Building
Information Modelling (BIM) across the design team to
bring benefits of increased accuracy and efficiency to
the scheme.
Lendlease Consulting provided Executive Project
Management services, providing advice and
overseeing the project delivery team and stakeholders
to ensure early risk identification, mitigation and close
out and successful delivery of this complex scheme.
LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT14 15
WARD
REFURBISHMENT
PROGRAMME
Lendlease Consulting has managed the
programme of annual major ward refur-
bishments. The Trust’s ward stock is, in
the main, existing 30-bed “Nightingale”
arrangements with little modernisation
since first constructed in the 1960s.
They are ageing and in need of recon-
figuration, modernisation and upgrade
to provide fully compliant patient care.
The existing arrangements also do not
offer flexibility and efficiency of service,
nor address single sex / privacy and
dignity issues. Through an ongoing
modernisation, reconfiguration and
refurbishment programme, the wards
are being brought in line with modern
day standards and service provision. The
refurbishments are carefully designed
and constructed to address their spe-
cific needs in terms of the number of
single rooms, multiple bedded bays and
bariatric services whilst providing and
allowing future flexibility.
To date the programme has addressed
the conversion of existing wards into
Oncology Day Case and OPD as well
as fully reconfiguring and modernising
the general complex elderly, dementia,
stroke rehabilitation, general surgical
and respiratory wards.
LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT16 17
THEATRE
REFURBISHMENT
PROGRAMME
As part of the Trust’s strategic plan and ongoing
programme of departmental reconfiguration and
refurbishment works the Theatres, at over fifty
years old, are approaching the end of their useful
life. The six theatres undergoing reconfiguration,
refurbishment and modernisation provide General
Surgery, Vascular, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Acutes
(CEPOD), ENT, Urology and Plastics. The Trauma
and Orthopaedics Theatres also include Laminar
Flow Ultra Clean Canopies (UCVs) to ensure patient
safety and improve outcomes both during and after
implant procedures and fracture procedures.
Due to the existing theatre configuration and
physical building constraints, Lendlease developed
a complex sequence and logistics plan to allow
individual theatres to be refurbished in a “rolling
programme” whilst maintaining full service delivery
in the remaining five theatres.
Following their refurbishment the theatres will
be fully HTM 03 compliant, provide modern day
standard of service finishes and equipment, and
ensure future flexibility for the Trust and the services
they provide.

PHARMACEUTICAL
MANUFACTURING
UNIT
The new Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Unit (PMU)
was created to replace the existing, aging, unit which
had outgrown its previous location and required
future expansion space, bringing it up to modern day
standards and compliances.
The new unit was was created within a disused
copper winding mill which required full strip out
and decontamination works before the fit out could
begin. Full MHRA involvement was instigated in early
design stages and a series of facility and equipment
DQ documents prepared and developed as part of
the MHRA compliance requirements. Home Office
approvals also had to be sought due to the nature of
materials stored within the unit.
The new facility produces around 1000 different
product lines including high quality, special medicinal
products, to hospitals, retail pharmacy chains,
independent pharmacies, dental practices and
podiatrists. The PMU has an established nationwide
customer base of more than 1500 users, with a national
reputation for outstanding quality and service as well as
holding “lead unit” status.
Included within the PMU is Non-sterile Production
of 330 different types of products including creams
& ointments, oral solutions, pastes, re-packaging
of liquids and disinfectants as well as around 450,
one off extemporaneous preparations per month.
Tablet Packing, undertaking over labelling of original
packs, re-packaging of tablet and capsules from bulk
containers, needle & syringe packs, eye drop over
labelling, anaphylactic shock packs, combination packs
as well as packing over 550 different products to over
30 hospitals across the country. Sterile Manufacturing,
Viewing and Labelling Section - The Sterile Production
Unit makes over 190 different products including
Injections, intravenous fluids, eye drops, topical
solutions, disinfectants, pre-filled syringes as well as
sterile bottles and vials.
The new facility also includes a receipt and distribution
area, cold, bonded and controlled drugs stores,
laboratories as well as all associated office and
administration areas.

HEAD AND
NECK PROJECT
This flagship unit provides a dedicated Head and
Neck Centre including Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
(OMFS), Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), Head and Neck
Surgery, Audiology and Cochlear Implantation (CI) and
associated admin and support services.
This facility was provided by reconfiguring and
refurbishing an ex Mental Health Inpatient facility
into a purpose designed Head and Neck Centre. It
consolidated the services in a dedicated building,
bringing together the associated services which
had previously been fragmented across the Hospital
Campus. This not only provided more efficient work
streams and interaction between the disciplines but
also maximised shared spaces and facilities as well as
offering the patients a significantly enhanced service
offering and patient experience.

THE
VASCULAR
CENTRE
The project involved the conversion of
a redundant Ear Nose & Throat (ENT)
Department into a brand new Vascular
Centre providing the hospital with 46
additional surgical beds, some with en-
suite rooms, as well as increased office
space and ward support rooms. The pro-
ject was located on the first floor, with a
busy Outpatients department below, live
wards above and Theatres adjacent so
meticulous infection control measures
were put in place along with detailed
logistics plans. The existing internal
construction was completely stripped
out and new plant installed on the roof
and M&E services run down the façade
of the building in a new enclosure.
The project was successfully delivered
through the PFI contract where the
lifecycle elements were funded by
two separate organisations and the
enhancements funded by the Trust. This
effectively resulted in Lendlease Con-
sulting managing three individual clients
often with different objectives. Although
challenging, it was successfully over-
come through creating an environment
of inclusion and openness, and adopting
clear processes and procedures. This
ensured that the project was planned,
co-ordinated and delivered effectively
and efficiently whilst satisfying all stake-
holders requirements.
LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT 25
VARIATIONS
MANAGEMENT
Following the completion of Manchester Royal
Infirmary, the Largest PFI Scheme outside of London
at the time, Lendlease Consulting was appointed
to manage the delivery of variations under the PFI
contract. Secondments were made into both the SPV
Project Co. and FM team responsible for the design,
procurement and delivery of the variations.
Taking the Client brief we are then responsible for
procuring and managing the design, tender, cost,
programme and logistics plans into a firm proposal
for agreement and sign off. Once approved these
variations, which vary in size, complexity, scale and
cost between £50,000 and £20,000,000 are awarded
to the successful contractor(s) and the works managed
through the delivery, commissioning, training and
handover phases.
LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT26 27
ENDOSCOPY
UNIT
Lendlease Consulting managed this new
build Endoscopy Unit located within an
enclosed cruciform courtyard of a live
Hospital site.
This complex project initially required
the relocation of both Trust Health In-
formatics Services (THIS) and Pharmacy
office space to newly refurbished loca-
tions to allow unhindered access and a
clear site to commence construction of
the new unit.
A new temporary MRI scanner base and
waiting room also had to be provided to
allow the siting of a tower crane to ser-
vice the enclosed and congested site.
Since its completion the purpose
designed facility has freed up much
needed space within the hospital and
provided a fully accredited, modern and
highly flexible healthcare facility serving
the local population.
LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT28 29
The original boiler plant servicing the Trust’s site was,
despite providing a reliable service to the Hospital,
becoming increasingly labour intensive and costly
to run and maintain. The main drivers for the project
were the escalating maintenance costs, Corporate
Social Responsibility and associated environmental
concerns of Carbon (CO²) usage with associated
Carbon and Sulphur emissions.
Whilst participating in a Carbon Trust Carbon
Management Pilot Scheme, the boiler house and its
boilers were highlighted as a prime target for a CO²
reduction project. The project replaced some of the
last coal fired boiler sets in the NHS with new highly
efficient dual fuel gas and diesel powered boilers,
a new gas supply, infrastructure and a hundred and
twenty five thousand litre diesel storage backup tank.
The project was meticulously planned, requiring
several enabling schemes, to ensure a constant
supply and backup of both heat and steam from
temporary plant without interruption or impact on the
day to day running and servicing of the Hospital site.

  • 5. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT8 9 PARTNERING AND RELATIONSHIPS Lendlease Consulting fully believes in the benefits which long term Client relationships and partnerships can bring in terms of efficiency, delivery and Client satisfaction. A deeper, enhanced, understanding and appreciation of longer term goals can ensure all interim projects are sympathetic and cognisant of the wider strategies. This partnering approach also cultivates relationships and therefore a mutual confidence and respect resulting in more effective working in achieving the common goal. An example of this is our long term relationship with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. From our first commission in 2005, the Consulting Business of Lendlease has established and developed a long term partnership and relationship with Trust. Providing Healthcare for more than 435,000 people across Calderdale and Kirklees the Trust continues to modernise and invest in their estate and health services to build upon their reputation. During our partnership we have developed a strong working relationship with a number of staff in a cross section of departments and divisions both clinical and non-clinical and closely work with Estates and Facilities, Finance, Procurement and Supplies, THIS as well as Infection Control, Manual Handling and Cleaning Services on a regular basis. • 6. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT10 11 DUAL HYBRID THEATRES Lendlease Consulting is proud to have managed this state of the art facility from early feasibility and consultation stage through design, procurement, delivery, commissioning, training and handover. The Theatres are believed to have been the first dual “true” Hybrid Theatre suite in Europe, consist of two cutting-edge, fully integrated, Hybrid Theatres and a general women’s theatre. A key feature of the Hybrid Theatres is the inclusion of a robotic C-Arm as, normally, a theatre tends to be designed purely for surgical purposes, with radiology and diagnostics scanning equipment located separately. These true Hybrid Theatres combined the two, resulting in quicker diagnosis of patients, in situ scanning, resulting in reduced procedure times, patient movement as well as patient and infection control risks. The project proved a substantial challenge in coordinating and integrating a number of bespoke and technically advanced fea- tures including skirtless ultra clean canopy (UCV), “Variop” powder coated modular walling system, fully integrated theatre system and specialist medical equipment. This was compounded by its location sur- rounded by Theatres, wards and directly over four live Ophthalmic Theatres. The design and sign off phases were helped immensely by the use of BIM from the outset which not only aided in the co-ordination of the building and service elements but also in providing the clinical users a better 3D under- standing of the new facility during the user group design meetings.
  • 7. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT 13 EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT This new Emergency Department project was the result of the 2013 Keogh report and subsequent Care Quality Commission visits. They identified the Emergency Department as a key strategic area requiring urgent attention to improve services, patient care and comply with current best practice guidelines. Due to the complexities of delivering this new department in a live Healthcare environment and ensuring continuity of service and patient care several decants and phases were required. This major acute project is utilising Building Information Modelling (BIM) across the design team to bring benefits of increased accuracy and efficiency to the scheme. Lendlease Consulting provided Executive Project Management services, providing advice and overseeing the project delivery team and stakeholders to ensure early risk identification, mitigation and close out and successful delivery of this complex scheme.
  • 8. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT14 15 WARD REFURBISHMENT PROGRAMME Lendlease Consulting has managed the programme of annual major ward refur- bishments. The Trust’s ward stock is, in the main, existing 30-bed “Nightingale” arrangements with little modernisation since first constructed in the 1960s. They are ageing and in need of recon- figuration, modernisation and upgrade to provide fully compliant patient care. The existing arrangements also do not offer flexibility and efficiency of service, nor address single sex / privacy and dignity issues. Through an ongoing modernisation, reconfiguration and refurbishment programme, the wards are being brought in line with modern day standards and service provision. The refurbishments are carefully designed and constructed to address their spe- cific needs in terms of the number of single rooms, multiple bedded bays and bariatric services whilst providing and allowing future flexibility. To date the programme has addressed the conversion of existing wards into Oncology Day Case and OPD as well as fully reconfiguring and modernising the general complex elderly, dementia, stroke rehabilitation, general surgical and respiratory wards.
  • 9. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT16 17 THEATRE REFURBISHMENT PROGRAMME As part of the Trust’s strategic plan and ongoing programme of departmental reconfiguration and refurbishment works the Theatres, at over fifty years old, are approaching the end of their useful life. The six theatres undergoing reconfiguration, refurbishment and modernisation provide General Surgery, Vascular, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Acutes (CEPOD), ENT, Urology and Plastics. The Trauma and Orthopaedics Theatres also include Laminar Flow Ultra Clean Canopies (UCVs) to ensure patient safety and improve outcomes both during and after implant procedures and fracture procedures. Due to the existing theatre configuration and physical building constraints, Lendlease developed a complex sequence and logistics plan to allow individual theatres to be refurbished in a “rolling programme” whilst maintaining full service delivery in the remaining five theatres. Following their refurbishment the theatres will be fully HTM 03 compliant, provide modern day standard of service finishes and equipment, and ensure future flexibility for the Trust and the services they provide.
  • 10. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT18 19 PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING UNIT The new Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Unit (PMU) was created to replace the existing, aging, unit which had outgrown its previous location and required future expansion space, bringing it up to modern day standards and compliances. The new unit was was created within a disused copper winding mill which required full strip out and decontamination works before the fit out could begin. Full MHRA involvement was instigated in early design stages and a series of facility and equipment DQ documents prepared and developed as part of the MHRA compliance requirements. Home Office approvals also had to be sought due to the nature of materials stored within the unit. The new facility produces around 1000 different product lines including high quality, special medicinal products, to hospitals, retail pharmacy chains, independent pharmacies, dental practices and podiatrists. The PMU has an established nationwide customer base of more than 1500 users, with a national reputation for outstanding quality and service as well as holding “lead unit” status. Included within the PMU is Non-sterile Production of 330 different types of products including creams & ointments, oral solutions, pastes, re-packaging of liquids and disinfectants as well as around 450, one off extemporaneous preparations per month. Tablet Packing, undertaking over labelling of original packs, re-packaging of tablet and capsules from bulk containers, needle & syringe packs, eye drop over labelling, anaphylactic shock packs, combination packs as well as packing over 550 different products to over 30 hospitals across the country. Sterile Manufacturing, Viewing and Labelling Section - The Sterile Production Unit makes over 190 different products including Injections, intravenous fluids, eye drops, topical solutions, disinfectants, pre-filled syringes as well as sterile bottles and vials. The new facility also includes a receipt and distribution area, cold, bonded and controlled drugs stores, laboratories as well as all associated office and administration areas.
  • 11. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT 21 HEAD AND NECK PROJECT This flagship unit provides a dedicated Head and Neck Centre including Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), Head and Neck Surgery, Audiology and Cochlear Implantation (CI) and associated admin and support services. This facility was provided by reconfiguring and refurbishing an ex Mental Health Inpatient facility into a purpose designed Head and Neck Centre. It consolidated the services in a dedicated building, bringing together the associated services which had previously been fragmented across the Hospital Campus. This not only provided more efficient work streams and interaction between the disciplines but also maximised shared spaces and facilities as well as offering the patients a significantly enhanced service offering and patient experience.

The pro- ject was located on the first floor, with a busy Outpatients department below, live wards above and Theatres adjacent so meticulous infection control measures were put in place along with detailed logistics plans. The existing internal construction was completely stripped out and new plant installed on the roof and M&E services run down the façade of the building in a new enclosure. The project was successfully delivered through the PFI contract where the lifecycle elements were funded by two separate organisations and the enhancements funded by the Trust. This effectively resulted in Lendlease Con- sulting managing three individual clients often with different objectives. Although challenging, it was successfully over- come through creating an environment of inclusion and openness, and adopting clear processes and procedures. This ensured that the project was planned, co-ordinated and delivered effectively and efficiently whilst satisfying all stake- holders requirements.
  • 13. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT 25 VARIATIONS MANAGEMENT Following the completion of Manchester Royal Infirmary, the Largest PFI Scheme outside of London at the time, Lendlease Consulting was appointed to manage the delivery of variations under the PFI contract. Secondments were made into both the SPV Project Co. and FM team responsible for the design, procurement and delivery of the variations. Taking the Client brief we are then responsible for procuring and managing the design, tender, cost, programme and logistics plans into a firm proposal for agreement and sign off. Once approved these variations, which vary in size, complexity, scale and cost between £50,000 and £20,000,000 are awarded to the successful contractor(s) and the works managed through the delivery, commissioning, training and handover phases.
  • 14. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT26 27 ENDOSCOPY UNIT Lendlease Consulting managed this new build Endoscopy Unit located within an enclosed cruciform courtyard of a live Hospital site. This complex project initially required the relocation of both Trust Health In- formatics Services (THIS) and Pharmacy office space to newly refurbished loca- tions to allow unhindered access and a clear site to commence construction of the new unit. A new temporary MRI scanner base and waiting room also had to be provided to allow the siting of a tower crane to ser- vice the enclosed and congested site. Since its completion the purpose designed facility has freed up much needed space within the hospital and provided a fully accredited, modern and highly flexible healthcare facility serving the local population.
  • 15. LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT LENDLEASE CAPABILITY STATEMENT28 29 The original boiler plant servicing the Trust’s site was, despite providing a reliable service to the Hospital, becoming increasingly labour intensive and costly to run and maintain. The main drivers for the project were the escalating maintenance costs, Corporate Social Responsibility and associated environmental concerns of Carbon (CO²) usage with associated Carbon and Sulphur emissions. Whilst participating in a Carbon Trust Carbon Management Pilot Scheme, the boiler house and its boilers were highlighted as a prime target for a CO² reduction project. The project replaced some of the last coal fired boiler sets in the NHS with new highly efficient dual fuel gas and diesel powered boilers, a new gas supply, infrastructure and a hundred and twenty five thousand litre diesel storage backup tank. The project was meticulously planned, requiring several enabling schemes, to ensure a constant supply and backup of both heat and steam from temporary plant without interruption or impact on the day to day running and servicing of the Hospital site.
