I’ve become quite attached to in flight wi-fi and look for it every time I travel. The U.S. Government Accountability Office however, released a report recently indicating that planes with in-flight wi-fi are vulnerable to hacks from passengers and attackers. Researchers also report that healthcare and education are easy targets for cyber attackers due to the longer shelf life of their data and inadequate security. At the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society meetings (HIMSS) event last week, James Trainor, deputy assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Division said that health care data theft is a Tier 1 priority, capable of causing “catastrophic or severe harm.” Trainor said, "the pace is growing rapidly, the volume of data that’s being [stolen] is substantially increasing, and it just requires a much more robust response across the U.S. government and private sector." In fact, Singapore's Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry S. Iswaran, declared that "innovation in policing methods and tools is the key to ensuring that law enforcement agencies stay ahead of criminals and ultimately triumph."
