5. The big picture: Drones are currently used to varying degrees in EU Member States.
The multi-purpose application of drones brings socio-economic, environmental and regulatory
challenges that limit their current use across Europe.
● Costly investment
● Knowledge gaps, data protection and technology misuse
● Environmental conditions significantly limit the use of drones
● Regulatory restrictions
● Safety regulations

8. The ICAERUS vision is to explore opportunities and provide a more complete and interconnected
account of the potential and impact of drones as multi-purpose vehicles in EU agriculture, forestry
and rural areas.
The aim of ICAERUS is to showcase and support, through application, the effective, efficient and safe
deployment of drones as well as, identify the risks and added values associated with their use.

11. • The standardisation activities and research gained from AW-Drones will act as
inputs for the reduction of risks in the implementations of UCs, OCTs and
demonstration activities within ICAERUS.
• The scientific methodologies, design approach and development framework
related to the drone developed by ROMI will assist ICAERUS in the optimal
organisation and deployment of the relevant UCs.
• The background gained in data capturing and acquisition combined with
mission planning accuracy will assist ICAERUS in the design and
implementation of UCs. In addition, the ICAERUS Platform will be fed with
algorithms from this project.

12. • Technical knowledge obtained from OPTIMA will be effectively transferred to an
aerial implementation, ultimately compared to conventional spraying.
• The pedagogical approach and the innovations
developed to engage learners in this MOOC
will be used in the online material developed
for ICEARUS.
• The methodology on linking business processes with rural development will be
utilised in the governance and business models of ICAERUS. The know-how on
managing open calls targeted to agriculture, forestry and rural areas.
