Infographic Creating an Immersive Learning Environment for Behavioral Health Change1. 1. INVOLVE ROLE MODELS FROM THE START
Worksheets and teaching guides gave teachers an
ideal way to present information and interact with
students with clear lesson plans and information
based on cartoons to keep lessons both informative
and entertaining.
3. ENCOURAGE ENGAGEMENT
The mobile app asks students
to record a video of themselves
explaining how they would
respond to peer pressure-
related situations with alcohol,
giving them a fun way to engage
more fully with the learning, and
encouraging them to process their
own responses to the information.5. INCORPORATE GAMING
Elements like a word
scramble challenge and a
“Brain Snatcher” zombie
game provide fun enticement
to encourage students to
finish all sections of the app,
and maximize their learning.
LEARN HOW TO CREATE AN IMMERSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR CHANGING HEALTH BEHAVIORS.
Based on the Reach Out Now program developed for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration, ICF uses the following steps to educate youth about the effects of alcohol on the brain and
body—steps that can be applied to other behavioral health programs as well!

2. ENTICE EXPLORATION AND LEARNING
A centerpiece of the program, the brain diagram,
encouraged students to explore the different
areas of the brain and learn about the specific
ways that alcohol alters its function.
4. MAKE IT MOBILE
A new mobile app designed for the iPad to complement
the program offers animation, graphics, voiceover
information, and music to provide an interactive way for
students to explore the effects of alcohol on the brain in
even more detail.
