In this session, we will take a look at what we need to keep on our radar when we start a new project inside the Cloud. When not only us but also clients are new to the Cloud ecosystem, we need to be aware of small things that can make a difference or secure the success of the project. Things like security, environment isolation and access controls are just a tiny part of the things that we need be aware. There will be examples from real life projects and hands-on implementations inside Microsoft Azure. The LAMP (Linux/Apache HTTP Server/MySQL/PHP) stack has dominated web infrastructures, in the IoT it is believed a similar open source stack will dominate IoT deployments. This presentation will look at the new technology requirements and architectures required for IoT solutions. It will identify three stacks of software required by any IoT solution, and finally present how open source communities, such as the Eclipse IoT community, are already supplying the critical software technology needed by IoT solution providers. Title: Your organization needs an OSPO, or be ready to fail! Open source is becoming the main ingredient for companies to success. To achieve it, companies need to manage efficiently their relationship with open source projects. And that’s the main goal for companies’ Open Source Program Office (OSPO). During this talk, you will learn about the benefits of having an OSPO in your organization, why should companies adapt to open source and adopt an OSPO, how it makes a difference to have a team responsible for viewing, managing, making critical decisions, contributions back to open source projects, and providing oversight for open source initiatives on their company and where they should start. Also, we will give real examples of how companies are doing this today and their impact for the community, like Samsung Open Source Group, Uber, and others. Many open source projects are seeking commercial backing and growing into businesses – e.g. Spark, Cassandra, Hadoop. How do you market your project or product to investors or to enterprises? What should your pitch deck or customer presentation look like? This talk will show you the archetype (based on watching hundreds of these presentations) and exactly how not to do a presentation like this. Intro: Mark Madsen’s exposure to the software industry can be measured in terapoints (that’s 1 million powerpoints). He received his Master’s degree in Science from an unnamed university in 1993 and has been doing what is described in technical jargon as “a lot of stuff” since then. With knowledge as broad as the wide Mississippi, his qualifications need not be divulged, and certainly not investigated. Your digital double is active and involved in various activities, even when you take a nap. Therefore, securing the digital double is critical. As an enterprise or security architect designing digital experiences, you have to pay attention to privacy, confidentiality, trust, and the security of a digital double. In this session, Asanka will explain an architectural approach to building a trusted digital ecosystem using APIs, integration, and identity.

In the end my colleague Adrian Keward stepped in for me to deliver this talk but here are my slides from the seminar at the Government ICT 2.0 event in September 2014. Removing the G-Cloud Lock-in G-Cloud is a major step forward in promoting competition and an open market for service delivery in UK Public Sector. But it is still one crucial step short of delivering on its potential for government departments to use its services flexibly and without lock-in. At its worst, it risks being nothing more than a framework to purchase 24-month contracts. Red Hat proposes that Open Source technology and open standards can truly unlock G-Cloud services, putting the department in control of the services it acquires, and enabling agile deployment as well as agile development.
