Businesses and people in them make countless efforts to respond to, lead, and manaage change, and many of them fail to go anywhere. There is an approach that guarantees not just change, but progress, and a guide for self-correction along the way. The model - while having many deeper and complex implications - is easily grasped, intuitively obvious. It organizes the relationships between factors of dissatisfaction with present conditions, aspects of a effective vision/direction, impelementation of initial directed action. It also indicates how these related to, and can overcome the confounding factors of inertia (e.g. habit, resistance). I would include presentation of the basic model, the role of values, and examples of how the model applies to making progress in any individual or collective effort, with a couple of famous case citations (e.g. the lunar landing module, civil rihts in the '60's).

Every day, millions of advertising campaigns are happening around the world. As campaign owners, measuring the ongoing campaign effectiveness (e.g “how many distinct users saw my online ad VS how many distinct users saw my online ad, clicked it and purchased my product?”) is super important. However, this task (often referred to as “funnel analysis”) is not an easy task, especially if the chronological order of events matters. One way to mitigate this challenge is combining Apache Druid and Apache DataSketches, to provide fast analytics on large volumes of data. However, while that combination can answer some of these questions, it still can’t answer the question “how many distinct users viewed the brand’s homepage FIRST and THEN viewed product X page?” In this talk, we will discuss how we combine Spark, Druid and DataSketches to answer such questions at scale.

At Amazon, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) techniques enable collaboration, increase agility, and deliver a high-quality product faster. In this talk, we walk you through the practices we use for both the CI and the CD of software delivery. For CI, we showcase how we incorporate pull requests to increase team collaboration. We also demonstrate how to optimize CI workflows for speed with caching, code analysis, and integration testing. For CD, we share example safety mechanisms, including canary testing, rollbacks, and availability zone redundancy. We use the AWS developer tools that were designed based on the internal Amazon tooling: AWS CodeCommit, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeDeploy, and AWS X-Ray.
