Achray became part of Algonquin when four half-townships and six
townships bordering its east boundary were added to the Park in 1914.
Canoeists came by train and camped here starting in 1915. Logging
company and park management vehicles could drive to Achray on forest
access roads constructed in the 1940s and 1950s, but park visitors were
not able to come here by road until 1963. Today’s organized campground
with designated sites and facilities was established in the late 1970s.
Achray a fait partie du parc Algonquin quand quatre demi-cantons et six
cantons qui bordaient la limite est du parc ont été annexés au parc en
1914. Les canoéistes, venus par train, commencèrent à camper ici en
1915. Les exploitants forestiers et le personnel du parc se rendaient à
Achray en prenant les routes d’accès aux chantiers forestiers qui avaient
été construites dans les années 1940 et 1950.
Les visiteurs, eux, ont dû
attendre jusqu’en 1963
pour se rendre à Achray
en voiture. Le terrain de
camping d’aujourd’hui et
ses installations datent de
la fin des années 1970.
