Market Wrap-Up
Continued concerns over the situation in the Middle East led
to a volatile session for the Indian markets. Sensex recovered
127 points from day’s low at 25063.93 to end at 25190.4
while Nifty recovered 46 points from the intraday low to
close the day at 7533.55. Of the sectoral indices Realty index
continues to top the gainers’ chart with an increase of 1.7%.
Domestic Update
Wholesale prices-based inflation (WPI) in May 2014
accelerated to a five-month high of 6.01%, driven up by
higher food and fuel costs. In April, wholesale prices rose at
their slowest pace in two months to 5.20%.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation
stone for the 600-MW Kholongchu hydro-electric project, a
joint venture between India and Bhutan.
Sector Update
Government has hiked the import tariff value on gold and
silver to $411 per 10 grams and $632 per kg due to the rise
in global prices resulting from escalating violence in Iraq.
The under recovery on diesel prices came down further to
Rs 1.62 per litre for the current fortnight. The under-
recoveries for FY15 are projected to be Rs 91,665 crore
while the figure was Rs 1,39,869 in FY14.
Corporate Update
ONGC may raise its stake in Cairn India's prolific Rajasthan
oil fields as a condition for agreeing to allow the Anil
Agarwal-group firm operates the block after expiry of
contractual period.
The realty arm of the Mahindra Group, Mahindra
Lifespaces, has launched a new business vertical focused
on affordable housing. Called 'Happinest', the vertical would
launch its first two projects at Avadi in Chennai and Boisar
in Mumbai. These developments would be aimed at families
with a current combined monthly income of Rs 20,000 to Rs
40,000 per month.
A consortium led by GMR Infrastructure has won three
construction packages of rail line doubling of Multi Modal
Transport System (MMTS)–PhaseII works on Secunderabad
Division of South Central Railway in the State of Andhra
Pradesh, India. GMR’s share of work is about Rs. 207 crore.
Titagarh Wagons Ltd, flagship company of the Titagarh
Group, has made its maiden foray into manufacturing of
metro coach business. Recently, the company has bagged a
contract for rehabilitation of 56 coaches (seven rakes) from
the Kolkata Metro Railway.
Wipro has won a transformational IT applications and
infrastructure deal from 7-Eleven, a convenience store
chain in Australia.
Shareholders of YES Bank have approved the board’s
decision to raise $500Mn capital to support its growth plans
