The NFL is proposing to host a celebrity golf tournament to raise funds for the Concussion Legacy Foundation in order to support their research on CTE and concussions. The event will involve recruiting celebrity golfers and NFL players to participate and solicit donations, as well as selling tickets, securing corporate sponsorships, and engaging local vendors at the tournament location, the International Golf Club in Boston. The goals of the event are to raise at least $100,000 for the Concussion Legacy Foundation through various fundraising activities at the tournament.
4. The name of the organization the NFL will be representing for this event is the
Concussion Legacy Foundation. Their mission statement is as follows: “Concussions can derail a
life. The Concussion Legacy Foundation believes we all have a responsibility to ensure athletes
can reach their full potential on and off the field. We are committed to protecting athletes and
families through research, policy, and education. The Concussion Legacy Foundation is
dedicated to advancing the study, treatment, and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in
athletes and other at-risk groups.” (Concussion Legacy Foundation, 2018).
The NFL would like to host a celebrity charity golf tournament to raise funds for the
Concussion Legacy foundation in support of their vision to have “a world without CTE and
concussion safety without compromise.” (Concussion Legacy Foundation, 2018). Due to the
high volume of NFL players that have been diagnosed with CTE as a result of concussions
received while playing football, the NFL has to think of players safety first and the best way to
do that would be to research, educate, create policy and focus on prevention, which is what the
Concussion Legacy Foundation is all about.
There will be various methods of raising funds through this celebrity golf tournament.
First, the NFL will solicit the participation from top golfers, NFL players with golf experience,
and other celebrities. Then in the months leading up to the event, each celebrity will solicit
pledges donations, and corporate sponsors for the event. There will be incentives for the top
pledge getter. The NFL will also solicit corporate sponsorship from existing partners and new
5. ones. The event will be open to the public, where ticket sales and donations will be taken to
support the cause. The tournament play format will be a common format called scramble. In
this format, each celebrity from each group will tee off on each hole. “The best of the tee shots
then is selected, and all players play their second shot from that spot. The process is repeated
until the ball is holed.” (Fundraiserhelp.com, 2018). We will solicit local merchants and
corporate sponsors to present top golfer prizes, which include prizes longest drive, lowest team
score, lowest actual score, and hole in one.
The name of this event will be “NFL’s Legacy
Celebrity Golf Tournament.” “Legacy was chosen for two
significant reasons. Firstly, to reflect the far-reaching,
permanent and positive impact made by those families who
decide to donate a brain to CTE research. Secondly, to
emphasize that sports-related brain trauma in children
leaves a permanent legacy in developing bodies.”
(Concussion Legacy Foundation, 2018). The event will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 to
give ample time for planning and preparation, while giving the participants enough time to get
as many pledges, donations, and sponsors for the event as possible. The International Golf
Club: Oaks Course will be the location for the event, as it was rated No. 1 in the state. It is
located outside of Boston and includes resort amenities that are rated high, to include
restaurants and lodging for the participants. The course will prove to be a fun yet challenging
course to be played, with 18 holes and a Par of 72.
6. The vision of this event is to bring awareness to the effects of concussions and support
an organization “dedicated to advancing the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of
brain trauma in athletes,” through funding provided by people who want to support their
cause. The purpose of this event to is raise a substantial amount of money so that Concussion
Legacy Foundation can continue their excellent research in to the effects of concussions on
athletes and CTE.
The target market for this event will be aged 18 to 45, that are interested in supporting
CTE research. We will also target golf lovers and NFL fans in and around the Boston area. The
NFL will also target families and friends of someone impacted by CTE. With these target
markets in mind all promotions and advertisements will be target towards these demographic
and psychographic audiences. The expected attendance will be between 500 and 1,000
spectators, volunteers, participants, and other staff.
The primary goal for this event is to raise at least $100,000 for the continued research
and prevention techniques developed by Concussion Legacy Foundation. Two objectives to
measure and accomplish this goal are to have the participants raise at least $25,000 in pledges
and donations prior to the event and to attain at least $25,000 in corporate sponsorships. The
event will also hope to raise an additional $25,000 on-site during the event from spectator’s
donations and ticket sales. The rest of the money will be raised through soliciting local
merchants to sell products, like t-shirts, food & beverages, and memorabilia where a portion of
7. the proceeds will be contributed to the cause. Another goal we hope to accomplish is soliciting
at least 10 corporate sponsors for the event. One objective to accomplish this is to send out
sponsorship recruitment packages to 20 major organizations for consideration by January 1,
2019. A third goal we hope to accomplish is the recruitment of 15 local merchants to
participate in the event by setting up tents, selling products and agreeing to contribute a
portion of their sales to the Concussion Legacy Foundation. To help achieve this goal we will
reach out to local businesses and purpose the opportunity to make money, build brand
recognition and contribute to a good cause. It is an objective to have at least 10 local
merchants by February 20, 2019. Another goal of the event is to reach our target market for
the event through promotion to ensure we reach our expected attendance goal. To achieve
this goal, it is an objective to create marketing materials, press releases, and advertisements to
be presented to the public on television, radio, and other traditional media. We want to have
marketing material created by November 31, 2018. My final goal is to have at least 100
volunteers donate their time to work the event. An objective that we will measure in order to
achieve this goal is to have at least 50 volunteers register and train for the event by March 31,
2019. Another objective is to have a training and meeting about the duties for the event for all
of the volunteer one week before the event.
It is the hopes of the NFL to bring as much awareness and funding to the Concussion
Legacy Foundation for all of the good work that they do in order to keep our athletes safe.

Hello Mr. Stevens,
My name is Ingrid Little, event coordinator for the NFL’s Legacy Celebrity Golf Tournament. The
inaugural date of our annual golf tournament will be August 1, 2019. This is a charity event, where we
will be raising money for the Concussion Legacy Foundation.
It is the mission of the Concussion Legacy Foundation to be dedicated to advancing the study,
treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups. Their
vision is a world without CTE and concussion safety without compromise. In support of the NFL’s
athlete’s safety, we empathize with the goals of this non-profit organization.
In support of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, we will be holding a silent auction at the golf
tournament. We are reaching out, wondering if Kenmore Collectibles would be able to donate sports
memorabilia, sports cards, or other sports related items to be auctioned off. The proceeds of this
auction will be donated to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, to support their continued research into
brain trauma and CTE.
If you are interested in donating items for this silent auction, please contact me through email at
ilittle@nflslegacy.com.
Thank you,
Ingrid Little

EXPLANATION OF
BENEFITS
Through promotion of the event, each package
gives sponsors the ability to reach a target market
while building brand awareness and engagement.
Your company’s sponsorship of the NFL’s Legacy
Celebrity Golf Tournament sends a clear message
that it cares about the safety of our players and are
willing to support a good cause.
In addition to the branding opportunities that come
with partnering with the NFL, we also feel that your
company will experience an exciting event.
Our packages include VIP passes which provide
access to the resort, restaurants and other
amenities of the International Golf Club.
The VIP pass also includes bleacher seating at the
18th hole and autograph opportunities with the
celebrity participants of the tournament.
Our goal is to create a mutually beneficial
partnership between your company and the NFL’s
Celebrity Golf Tournament.
