• Being human means having a sense of Self.
• Your memories, experiences, thoughts, emotions, imagery, relationships,
successes, self-esteem and more make up your Self--who you are and who you
can be.
• You also have an Inner Helper.
• Inner Helper is a name for a mental process in which you connect to the Self in
a special way.
2. Your Inner Helper
• You use your Inner Helper to connect to the rich resources of your unique Self.
• Of course, people can have the subjective experience of using their Inner
Helper, without giving it a name.
• Have you ever tried to summon up your "will power?"
• Have you ever looked within yourself for courage and inner strength to carry
out a decision?
• That's a search for your "Inner Helper"
3. Your Inner Helper
• When you concentrate, you begin to explore the fascinating landscape of the
inner mind.
• You connect to your Inner Helper by using self-suggestion.
• You concentrate and suggest to yourself connecting to your Inner Helper.
4. Your Inner Helper
• Concentration and self-suggestion generate imagery.
• You may get an an image of someone you admired, or someone who liked
and supported you.
• You may get a significant thought or message.
• You may remember a past success, or get in touch with your self-esteem.

• Colors may appear that are meaningful to you.
• You may remember how you acted or felt at another time that was helpful to
you.
• You can find inner resources to resolve a conflict, solve a problem.
• You may discover you have courage and resiliency.

• As you concentrate you notice the images that appear.
• Imagery can lead to self-suggestions.
• You can't predict what kind of suggestions you will get as you activate your
Inner Helper.
• But usually you can trust them. They're your suggestions.

• An Inner Helper serves your best interests.
• An Inner Helper can limit excessive self-criticism.
• An Inner Helper can lift self-esteem,
• Your self-esteem may lift because you are willing to struggle with your weight..
• An Inner helper remembers successes.

• An Inner Helper transfers learned courage and self-esteem to challenges, like
learning to manage your weight.
• You can use your Inner Helper to get suggestions from your Self about
managing your weight.
• You can get reminders of techniques you can use.
• When you concentrate on the search for inner help, you become more self-
aware.
• You strengthen your sense of Self.

• Scientists have always been curious about how the brain gives rise to the
experience of mind.
• Their view is, that you are not your brain, but your brain enables your mental
processes.
• Scientists have located sites in the brain that give rise to the sense of Self.
10. Your Inner Helper
• They have located an "executive system" in the brain which controls higher
mental functions.
• The executive system regulates emotions, reduces mental conflict, balances
urges with control, makes it possible to carry out daily routines and is responsive
to suggestion.
• The executive system is always on.

• Scientists have discovered a reward system in the brain that can be triggered
by over consumption of sugar and sweets.
• The reward system goes awry in addiction.
• The executive system can help moderate this over-activity in the reward
system.

centers of attention in the brain.
• Higher centers generate imagery.
• Images are a form of self-suggestion.
• Higher centers respond to self-suggestion.

lead to self-suggestions about managing your weight.
