It profiles Kasey Ortoski, the Contract Operations Manager at Jacobs, discussing her educational background, role at Jacobs, and views on leadership. It also provides summaries of the profiles of 9 other women leaders, including brief details about their companies and roles. The document aims to spotlight stories of excellence of these women in modern business.
5. omen in business often have a real
Wdetermination to succeed because they are
powered by their mission and purpose in life.
They may have motives and a desire to succeed because of
a family to support, or they may just have dreams they want
to become a reality. Having female leadership in any
organization leads to a more positive environment all
around. Women may not always realize how composed for
achievement they are in leadership roles, but their potential
and capabilities are irrefutable.
Empathy, open-mindedness, mindfulness, pressure
handling, multitasking, and open communication are some
innate traits of female leaders that make them more in sync
with their team. Today, many of businesses and industries
are realizing that women in leadership not only bring
important benefits but are also irreplaceable in the office,
boardroom, and at the head of the table. Diverse
experiences and perspectives contribute importantly to
bringing innovation, as different perspectives lead to better
decision-making. Therefore, organizations with higher
levels of diversity usually tend to outgrow those with fewer
diversity percentages.
When women become leaders, they bring skills, different
perspectives, and structural and cultural differences,
ultimately driving effective solutions to the companies
occupied by men. With different perspectives and a sense of
awareness, women can investigate finer details to see what
is really going on underneath.
The qualities that distinguish women leaders are assertive
and persuasive, have a stronger need to get things done; and
are more willing to take risks than male leaders. This
approach to leadership helps women better facilitate
collaboration and information-sharing. Women often choose
to discuss possible solutions with more people and, in turn,
gain more facts and perspectives.

12. ne of the true tests of leadership is the ability to
Orecognize a problem before it becomes an
emergency.”
-Arnold Glasow
Some leaders are assigned to lead, and some leaders were
born to take charge. Kasey Ortoski is one of them. A leader
passionate about strategic planning and leadership builds a
competent, capable, and commanding team in their work.
Kasey's result-oriented approach has paid high dividends,
making her an expert in project management with extensive
experience and demonstrated success in delivering multiple,
high-value technical projects within a predefined time
without compromising on the quality, scope, and budget.
Speaking of her educational achievements, Kasey has a
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master
of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of
Tampa. Additionally, she is obtaining a Doctor of
Philosophy in Organizational Leadership, with a research
topic including Agile Software Development teams and
work environment configurations.
As the Contract Operations Manager for Jacobs, Kasey
looks over the processes of managing schedulers, managing
risk, and ensuring quality assurance across the line. Due to
her varied experience and in-depth expertise in the subject,
she makes project management easy and seamless for
everyone involved.
We got to talk to her about her vast areas of interest through
an insightful interview.
Below are the highlights:
Brief our audience about your journey as a business
leader until your current position at Jacobs. What
challenges you had to overcome to reach where you are
today?
Today, I am the Contract Operations Manager. My past is
unique; I have had to overcome several difficulties to be
where I am today. As a nontraditional hire, I do not look
like most other technologists funnelled into the defense
contracting population. I have owned businesses, taught
children, mentored youths and young adults, consulted
higher education establishments, worked in sales, and much
more. I have been leading people since the day I turned 18
when I became the youngest manager of CiCi's Pizza
nationally, as I was promoted to store manager. My
background is rich in crucible experiences that do not
translate easily to a resume or work experience. I went back
to school after I had stepped back from owning my business
and decided the classroom was not where I belonged.
Attending The University of Tampa's Executive Master of
Business Administration program would prove to be one of
the most pivotal decisions of my life. I met some of the
most incredible individuals. Of those individuals, one
person, in particular, was life-changing. The person took a
chance on me and recommended me to be part of his team
at Jacobs. This would prove to be life-altering.
Working in Defense Technology was a whole new world for
me, but it allowed me to excel because I was so different
from my peers. I brought new ideas and a fresh attitude to
the teams I managed. I have had several promotions since
starting with Jacobs and continue to work on my personal
growth. Right after I started at Jacobs, I embarked on my
Doctor of Philosophy degree. It is wonderful to work for a
company that supports my education by both helping fund
my tuition and being flexible with my schedule so I can
travel to Los Angeles, California for a class as needed. My
program at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology
is incredibly applicable to my work at Jacobs. I chose this
school as all curriculum has a foundation in psychology, so
my Organizational Leadership program is teaching me a
great deal about the psychology of people and
organizations.
Tell us something more about your company and its
mission and vision.
Jacobs Engineering is an incredibly inclusive company with
a great culture- they take care of their people. Jacobs does
not accept what is as it is; we challenge the accepted and
strive to innovate and advance society.
At Jacobs, we make the world smarter, more connected, and
more sustainable.
Together, we're pushing the limits of what's possible. We
stay ahead to create new standards for our future needs.
Challenging today is our response to the increasing
complexity our world is experiencing.
It calls on us to join forces, putting our knowledge and
imagination together to reinvent the way we solve problems
and shape the next generation of innovative solutions.
Reinventing tomorrow is our promise and an invitation to

is everchanging, and my advantages help me better support
people as they operate in the technology sector
Describe in detail the values and the work culture that
drives your organization.
Our culture is incredibly diverse and inclusive while
striving to ensure equity. We challenge what is and envision
what can be while supporting and enriching our people in
the workplace and beyond. We have 8 employee networks
that foster a culture of caring. The groups are centered
around offering employees an opportunity to collaborate
with others around the world who share similar interests
and explore opportunities that relate to their specific goals.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
We have a great opportunity to innovate and improve our
legacy systems. Our current endeavours include leveraging
the benefits of cloud technology and implementing
automation in any possible area. We are also modernizing
our infrastructure to ensure we remain competitive.
If given a chance, what change would you like to bring
to the Cyber security industry?
I would like to reexamine the Authority to Operate (ATO)
process within the Defense community- as we begin to
employ emergent technologies such as cloud computing, we
need to assess the way we examine environments when
granting ATOs. We cannot Security Technical
Implementation Guide (STIG) ourselves to death and make
it so no new technologies get the chance to make it to our
warfighters.
What, according to you, could be the next big change in
Scientific Research Testing industry? How is your
company preparing to be a part of that change?
Space presents endless opportunities for exploration and
innovation. Jacobs' new strategy places a heavy emphasis
on Space technologies, exploration, and innovation. We are
currently working with NASA to create engineering
solutions to support the Space Launch System and space
flight projects, providing science and engineering support to
a space station, Orion and life support, and robotics
systems, as well as Launch control system development and
payload processing.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for Jacobs?
People are my passion, and technology is something that I
want to be part of- I am working hard to become a people
leader within our company so I can have the opportunity to
bring light to and improve the environment for large groups
of people. The higher I climb, the more opportunity I have
to create positive change.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the IT sector?
Information technology is not only for geniuses- it is for
everyone! Start by identifying whatever interests you in the
realm and identify certifications that will get you the
credentials needed for entry-level opportunities. Once you
have your foot in the door, look around and see who is
successful- talk to that person, become their mentee, and
learn as much as you can! Do not be afraid to volunteer for
extra work that serves as a learning opportunity, and it is
always ok to ask questions.

magic.” - Arthur C. Clarke

In the Welsh Wind's relaxed approach for the Gin tasting
experience.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
Brief our audience about your journey as a business
leader until your current position at IN the Welsh Wind.
What challenges did you have to overcome to reach
where you are today?
I started my working life as a teacher. I was passionate
about teaching, but over time I struggled with the
bureaucracy and politics that ran alongside the work in the
classroom. At around the same time, I was involved in a
serious car accident that damaged my knee. The
combination of events led me to return to west Wales. As
well as the challenges I had to overcome to recover my
physical fitness, I had really lost my inner spark. It took an
adventure – walking around Wales for three months, to
recover that excitement and openness to the possibility that
I needed to run a business. By the end of the walk, I felt
fully restored and ready to go. My partner Alex and I ran a
baking and catering business for a couple of years before
setting up the distillery. We had to get to grips with the
technicalities of creating gin, not to mention all the
paperwork involved in working with alcohol, but with
persistence, we managed it!
Our initial plan was to make and sell gin under our own 'In
the Welsh Wind' brand. However, we were offered the
opportunity to create gins for other brands and businesses,
so from the start of our business in January 2018 until July
2020; we worked on the custom branded spirits side of
things. We have developed upwards of 45 different gins for
our custom spirits clients – many are award-winning. We
launched our own, also award-winning, gin in July 2020
and are now focussing on growing our own range of spirits.
Here on the wild west Wales coast,
we distill award-winning gin and
other spirits and are pioneering
a truly Welsh whisky.

24. Tell us something about your company and its mission
and vision.
The distillery has grown quickly from just Alex and me in a
converted cowshed to flagship premises on the main west
Wales coast road and a staff of 15. We have also opened a
gin bar and bottle shop in our local town of Cardigan. We're
driven to produce top-quality, premium spirits that
showcase the best of Wales, including our full-grain to glass
whisky. We're also committed to flying the flag for this
corner of Wales, not only providing a tourist destination
with our gin-making and gin tasting experiences but by
providing work experience and training opportunities for
young people in the area.
Enlighten us on how you have made an impact on the
whisky niche through your expertise in the market.
Whisky is experiencing a renaissance in Wales, and we are
one of 5 distilleries producing whisky here. Each distillery
has its own USP, and we're excited to be bringing a 100%
Wels product to the market. Our grain, for what we refer to
as our 'Welsh Origin' whisky, is grown within 10 miles of
the distillery and is malted here on-site, removing the need
to transport the grain to the commercial malthouses in
England. Malting on-site also avoids energy-heavy kilning,
which would be necessary if malting happened remotely.
We've taken inspiration from the small number of
distilleries globally that work with green malt and have
customized the process to suit our needs.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
When considering the stills we would work with on the
whisky side, we have chosen to use new, state-of-the-art
still technology, which gives us greater control over the
distilling process. In a small business, this is crucial for us
to maintain the quality we expect from our spirits.
If given a chance, what change would you like to bring
in the distilling industry?
The industry is still very traditional, and while things are
slowly moving in the right direction, it is also very male-
dominated. I would like to see the industry becoming much
more open and diverse, encouraging people from different
backgrounds to become involved.
What, according to you, could be the next big change in
the custom spirits industry? How is your company
preparing to be part of that change?
We've seen an increasing trend in consumers looking to
understand the provenance of their food and drink – to
understand the stories behind the brands they are buying
and for there to be integrity in the products they are buying.
Our business and the brands we work with are committed to
providing the same – it's why they choose to work with us. I
think the time is coming where the custom spirits industry
will recognize and embrace this so that spirits that are
branded as being from a particular place will need to
demonstrate that they are made there, and wherever
possible, that the ingredients used have some connection to
the area, even if not native.
Where do you envisage yourself to be in the long run
and what are your future goals for your company?
We have planning permission to extend the distillery and to
build additional facilities at our existing location, so in the
short to medium term, our goal is to capitalize on this
opportunity, increase our production and develop and grow
the 'In the Welsh Wind' brand into a household name and a
symbol of the best Wales has to offer. Beyond that, the
development of an industry-leading research and education
centre is in our sights.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the business sector?
I would say there is no 'right time to launch a business. If
you believe in what you're doing and plan to commit
wholeheartedly to your product and to your business plan,
there is nothing to stop you from giving it a go. And while
having a plan is a great place to start, always be prepared to
adapt depending on the opportunities that come along.

one of the most formidable leaders to walk on the

wisdom. Being born into a single-parent family with a tight
financial situation, Emma learned to be humble at a very
young age. Her humble mindset is embodied in her
unrivaled success in achieving consistent profitability, stock
management, and project management delivery.
A journey filled with difficult paths always led Emma to
fight hard to secure positions and achieve better results,
constantly evolving herself. Starting her career in a male-

her, was the primary driver for Emma to found
International Energy Products in 2019.
When she began her business from scratch, she secured
funding and support from a private investor, growing her
company into a secured financial position. She achieved an
MBO in October 2021, becoming the sole owner and
shareholder of International Energy Products, a significant
achievement for her, overcoming numerous obstacles. Since
Emma initiated her venture, it has more than doubled
turnover year, having a complete order book moving
forward in 2022.
Quality at the Heart
International Energy Products’ philosophy is becoming a
leading solutions provider for metal sourcing globally. With
a wealth of knowledge and relationships spanning the
industry worldwide, it aims to support its customers to work
closely with them, adding value to its service.
Emma asserts, “Our industry is quite dated, and people
routinely do what they have done for 50-100 years now
without change. We provide a fresh approach, working with
customers most closely to understand their requirements
and offer value to their supply chain, saving not only money
but valuable time and resources.”
International Energy Products ensures working with the
most updated software and hardware to provide a secure
and versatile system. It has new technologies planned for
the next 12-18 months, which will support its customers
when ordering.
Transforming Shifts
Sharing her thoughts on bringing a change in the industry,
Emma mentions, “There are many competitors out there
that don’t want to work with you for fear of losing business.
I believe there is room for everyone, and sometimes it can
be advantageous for competitors of the same industry to
support each other and navigate through some industry-
specific issues by sharing knowledge.”
“I believe that people are moving back towards buying from
smaller, more specialized businesses as opposed to large
corporations. Businesses need that tailored service and
approach from smaller to medium-sized firms. We are
growing but fully intend to remain a small to medium size
business as we enjoy working closely with customers and
given that personalized service that they want and need,”
explains Emma.
What Comes Next?
Over the next 3-5 years, International Energy Products aims
to secure end user approvals and market positions within
the industry. Emma wants to be at the edge of the new
advancements and adopt new environmentally friendly
ways to serve the industry.
Swim Against the Current
Emma understands that starting up any business is hard; it’s
lonely and takes time and constant drive. She advises
aspiring entrepreneurs to lean on people around them for
support and get used to problem-solving. “You will find that
problem solving and navigating issues every day becomes
the norm, and long term, this is essentially the driver
behind the business’s growth and continuity,” Emma
concludes.

Office spaces don’t necessarily need to be in iconic
buildings to look innovative; a tranquil setting or amazing
design office mural can do wonders. If you are looking for
furnished office space with a creative touch, you may count
on Grace Kusta Nasralla.
Grace is the Owner and Director of Operations at
HUDDLESPACE, one of Ontario, Canada’s leading office

right office environment can positively impact the
wellbeing and general day to day lives of small business
owners.
We at Insights Success caught up with Grace to learn more
about her journey and how she is creating happy spaces that
her clients love.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
Brief our audience about your journey as a business
leader until your current position at HUDDLESPACE.
What challenges you had to overcome to reach where
you are today?
I grew up in a home that was managed by entrepreneurs.
My parents owned and operated a Sewing Supplies store in
Beirut, Lebanon, and as a teenager I was hired by my Dad,
every summer, to help run daily tasks in the store. So, I
grew familiar with entrepreneurship at an early age. After I
graduated from University, I worked in the corporate world
for many years. In 2005 I started taking on web design
projects, and I built a small client base. I registered a
business, and in an effort to grow my client base, I built a
virtual network for small business owners. In 2013, the
database grew to over 700 small businesses, so I started
running events and meeting clients and leads face to face.
That definitely helped me grow my business. I took on
different projects among the small business community and
I also taught business at a private College for 11 years. In
2017 I was ready to bring more to the small business
community in the Greater Toronto Area.
My husband and I started HUDDLESPACE, a workplace
facility for small business owners, startups, and
entrepreneurs. We turned a warehouse into
HUDDLESPACE where we rent out furnished offices to
small businesses that are seeking growth. Our clients range
from lawyers, to insurance brokers, to construction
management consultants, to IT and Telecom professionals.
We also have businesses that cater to the trucking industry,
Accounting and Finances, and other industries as well. The
main challenge that we face as we grow is probably the
same challenge that every small business is facing these
days, and that is having to restructure our business to meet

the client in mind as we make adjustments to meet COVID-
19 regulations as it develops. If you ask me about the Pre
COVID-19 challenges, when I started the business, I would
say eliminating distractions and staying focused on my
short-term and long-term goals. As we operate the business,
we face daily challenges, but as long as we stay focused on
the vision, we always see growth.
Tell us something more about HUDDLESPACE, its
mission and vision.
At this point, I am enjoying HUDDLESPACE as it became
a busy hub for small businesses, just the way I envisioned it
to be! Currently, we provide them with office space and
business address services. However, I feel it is time for us
to be a little more creative in how we cater to businesses
that come into HUDDLESPACE each day. And that’s what
I am focusing on this year.
Tell us how you have made an impact in the marketing
sector through your expertise in the market.
Three years ago, I embarked on a new project that I called
BizReflections. I turned my blog to a resourceful website
for small business owners. The blog website consists of
blog posts that are contributed by small business owners
with successful businesses, blog posts that I write sharing
my experience with the small business industry, business
podcasts that creatively showcase the knowledge and
experience of actual entrepreneurs, and videos that tackle
different business topics. I invite small businesses to check
us out at www.bizreflections.ca. Make sure to contact me if
you would like to become a contributor at bizreflections.ca.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role in
almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your solutions
resourceful?
At HUDDLESPACE, we leveraged technology in two
major aspects. We use smart locks, and we have the place
monitored 24/7. And with both, we use excellent
technologies that were especially made for commercial use.
In terms of marketing, we use technology to build our
mailing list, and to send out newsletters. We use
technologies to build and update our websites. We use
technologies to track website traffic and others to measure
how we’re doing.
If given a chance, what change would you like to bring
in the marketing sector?
In marketing, we all sense too much noise happening these
days. If I was given a choice and the means, I would work
hard to filter that noise out and soften it.
What, according to you, could be the next big change in
the digital marketing sector? How is your company
preparing to be a part of that change?
I guess Facebook is leading the way in what the future is
storing for us in terms of marketing technologies. A mix of
existing technologies that will make what they call the
Metaverse. I think we will see more and more technology
companies combining efforts to come up with what’s going
to lead the future of technologies.
It’s too early to say how we will be using future
technologies, but I am always willing to explore new
methods, tools and apps to help me grow my business.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run
and what are your future goals for HUDDLESPACE?
I would love to see more locations for HUDDLESPACE.
We started this one location near Pearson Airport, but I
would like to see us spread out across the Greater Toronto
Area.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the marketing sector?
I do encourage them to read about the industry before they
step into it. Research and find what area of marketing is a fit
for them. I would encourage them to pick and choose what
they want to specialize in based on where their passion lies,
and then they got to work hard to become leaders in it.

with the Gwen S. Cherry Bar Association,
which was formally known as the National
Bar Association Women Lawyers
Division. It was a group of African
American women lawyers, and I was
elected secretary during my tenure with
that board. Even though I was one of the
youngest members in the organization,
because of my passion, drive, and
service, my colleagues began to
recognize me. Since then, I have consistently and
continuously adapted the same spirit of always leading with
passion and doing my best, both professionally and
personally. I find that my ethos has led to me being
recommended, elected, or thought of as a leader in my
profession and in my volunteer work. Although I began as a
lawyer, my skills such as leadership and communication are
transferable and paved the way for my career path to
support governmental and community sectors. As a result of
my management, professional and commercial skills, I was
promoted to a director role with FPL. The challenges I have
faced have been primarily due to my demeanor, often
described as kind and gentle, which is sometimes
misconstrued or seen as weakness. However, I found that
kindness has allowed me to connect with people and
recognize their strengths and weaknesses, becoming a better
coach, mentor and leader for them. Another challenge I
have faced has been while participating with non-minority
organizations, I felt at times not as readily visible or valued,
but almost always persevered when I worked harder and

Tell us something more about FPL its mission and
vision.
FPL is an innovative company that is always
challenging itself to improve in every way –
providing America’s best energy value, with
electricity that’s not just clean and reliable but also
affordable. Its values are being committed to
excellence, doing the right thing and treating people
with respect. A combination of its values and driving
principles of continuous improvement are reflected
throughout the company resulting in high engagement
and pride among its employees.
Enlighten us on how you have made an impact in
the retail electricity niche through your expertise
in the market.
My greatest impact has been informing our business
and community partners about FPL’s service
reliability, growth in innovation and clean energy, and
our commitment to serving our communities through
financial giving, volunteerism and so much more. I
also support the company’s initiatives by liaising with
the local government to support our company’s
capital investments in solar and battery projects and
outreach to our customers to share new initiatives. All
of these are examples of our commitment to our
customers and communities today and for years to
come.
Undeniably, technology is playing a significant role
in almost every sector. How are you leveraging
technological advancements to make your
solutions resourceful?
Advancements in technology are crucial to FPL’s
modernization of the energy system.
We recognize that technology is essential to driving
innovation and efficiency. We encourage employees to
invent, create and share ideas in technology, including
augmented reality and other advancements that will
support and create greater efficiencies for the
company and ultimately our customers. And, our

always ahead of the curve.
If given a chance, what change would you like to bring
to the clean energy industry?
The clean energy industry has grown significantly in the last
several years, particularly due to the cost of solar becoming
more affordable. We have made significant advancements in
building solar energy centers, and over the last decade,
we’ve retired coal-powered plants and modernized many of
our older oil-burning power plants with new natural gas-
fired plants. We are continuously looking at ways to be a
leading driver of clean energy – exploring new
technologies, including green hydrogen, which could one
day unlock 100% carbon-free electricity, and unveiling the
world’s largest solar-powered battery to deliver more solar
energy to customers – even when the sun’s not shining.
What, according to you, could be the next big change in
the retail electricity industry? How is your company
preparing to be a part of that change?
Cars and transportation are one of the greatest contributors
to carbon emissions, so electric vehicles are emerging as a
growing trend in the auto industry. We constantly analyze
future trends – such as these – and create forward-thinking
programs to meet our customers’ evolving energy needs
while delivering clean, reliable energy. Our company has
identified electric vehicle charging ports as a solution to the
growing demand. FPL EVolution is designed to boost
Florida’s EV infrastructure and support EV adoption by
installing over 1,000 charging ports at more than 100
locations.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run
and what are your future goals for FPL?
I continue to see myself always working in a capacity to
serve the industry and my community. And, because of the
company’s focus on continuous improvement and
innovation, I know the sky’s the limit!
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the retail electricity sector?
I encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to stay informed with
this fast-paced growing market and the technology that
drives it. And, to look for mentors to help lay the
foundation for a strong future in the industry. We recently
launched 35 Mules, an innovation hub powered by FPL,
designed to move the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem
forward and help early-stage companies. Past startups
include energy, water, and energy-adjacent fields, and our
goal is to help these entrepreneurs build and scale their
early-stage companies right here in the state of Florida.
