Give a brief overview of your background and your role
in GT Digital.
As CEO, Founder, and Technical Designer for GT Digital, I
am responsible for all aspects of the company from a
leadership perspective. As a serial entrepreneur, I have
started and operated several businesses. Each of these
businesses were focused on designing new technologies,
typically involving video with data. In my current company
and role, I designed the product, am raising the capital to
fund the business, and evangelizing the company.
How do you diversify your tech solutions so as to appeal
your target audience?
The first thing is to identify a problem that needs to be
solved, is there a pain point or a gap that new technology
can address. Tech solutions should solve problems not exist
for tech’s sake. Artificial Intelligence is an interesting space
to work in. It’s largely misunderstood and mis-interpreted.
The term itself has become generic with too many
meanings and most AI is not really AI. Helping people
understand it is challenging.
What was your life changing event/ incident that
changed your life?
When the “Internet bubble” burst, while I was not a dot-
com company, the world changed. My engineering
company was competing against well-established
integrators, and as companies closed the market was
flooded with consultants and engineers. It was time to re-
invent myself.
What strategies do you undertake to make your
employees resourceful?
Inspire them to think outside the box. Look at the whole
picture not just parts of it. One of the most important is to
allow them to do it their way, different is not wrong. How I
do things is different than the way someone else might.
Also, the most important thing is to respect the ideas and
thoughts of others.
What are some of the vital attributes, in your opinion,
that every leader should possess?
As I just mentioned, allowing the people under you to
flourish, figure things out, guide where needed.

How necessary is it to align business with technology
and what are its outcomes?
It is critical to align business with technology. As a business
owner, it's important to both take advantage of the benefits

productivity technology offers, at the same time over
burdening a business with technology can be disruptive.
The other consideration is both adoption and workflows.
Will the users adopt the technology and are there new
workflows? For our clients, we help them select the best
technology for their application and be clear that the total
cost of ownership includes annual costs and operations

How do you deal with the dynamics of the market?
This is a constant effort, monitoring and analyzing trends. It
is one thing to be on the leading edge, it’s another to be on
the bleeding edge.

nature. But the concepts and theories make much
more sense if related to today’s modern world. So how

The Science of Theories
So, there are theories like New Criticism, Formalism,
Behavioral, Marxism, and so on. These theories help
individuals to build the thought process of the individual,

Business Criticism: Whether you are a tech leader, start-up

this theory, we come to know that leaders are not born
successful but by their patterns of behavior can become
successful leaders. Another benefit of this theory is that it
allows leaders to be flexible and adapt to the circumstances,
and one can realize that anyone is capable of becoming a
leader.
Participative Theory: Participative theory suggests that
employees should be directly involved in decision making
and helping by directing the change in the organization. By
implementing such a theory, employees can feel much more
engaged and motivated as their decisions can be reflected in
the outcomes of the company. Bill Gates incorporates
employees in the decision-making process. He encourages
employees to be open and honest in their discussions. So,

Relationship Theory: It is mainly concerned about
interactions with others. This theory fosters a positive work
environment by guiding and mentoring since relationship-
oriented leaders get the best out of their employees.

try to understand the problems of the employees and

Trait Theory: Trait means qualities and this theory focuses
on undergoing leadership qualities through various

changing situations quickly with this theory. Leaders come
up with their own leadership style and creativity among the

their own mistakes and put them behind by learning from

Humanistic Theory: Humanistic as the name suggest is
about trusting humans and having compassion towards each
other. It develops transparent communication among the
members of the team. The basic idea of this theory is
keeping the needs of the people over profit. It is about
having a clear business vision and working towards the
common goal of the organization. This theory gets the best
out of the employees. This helps a leader to adjust his
behavior and build a connection with employees.
Social Cognitive Theory: Social Cognitive theory works
collaboratively in making a difference with the collective
effort of the team. It engages in collective analysis sharing
the vision and goals of the activity. Also, it gives the 7 C’s
to the leaders of Consciousness, congruence, collaboration,
common purpose, citizenship, civility, and change.
Archetypal Theory: Archetypal theory is more than one
character in an individual. This theory inspires a leader to
be proactive in decision-making, while enjoying the
responsibility of leadership; not the power it brings but the

ne catastrophic incident or a tragedy can change
Osomeone’s life. The story of Marc Rippen is a
striking instance of this. Marc found her wife
nearly slipping into a diabetic coma and became
unresponsive due to being in prolonged low blood sugar
state. After he was able to rehabilitate her, he took a strong
hold of the situation and started Alertgy. He turned his
tragedy into a triumph by incepting Alertgy, a platform
committed to transforming how we monitor blood sugar to
improve the lives of diabetics, and in the future, help people
prevent diabetes.
In an interview with Insights Success, Marc sheds light on
his inspiring entrepreneurial journey and how Alertgy’s
technology is addressing the highly desired ability to
measure blood sugar levels with an external wearable
sensor device.

Give a brief overview of your background and your role
in Alertgy.
I was a former army officer, and most recently the director
of Engineering for the Marine and Space Technology
Division of Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International.
I hold degrees in microbiology, analytical chemistry, and
aeronautics. I have always been involved the development
of technology to solve critical problems starting as a
material engineer at Pratt & Whitney where I managed
advance research and development programs that supported
the development of advanced materials for jet and rocket
engines. I then transitioned to become a field engineer for
leading atomic and molecular spectroscopy companies
where I provided turnkey solutions to materials analysis for
a broad variety of industries from agriculture to
environmental to manufacturing to advanced research and
development in leading research institutions. From there I
became the director of the FIU College of Engineering
NASA tech transfer center where I helped companies utilize
NASA technologies in the commercial arena. In this role I
helped small businesses raise venture capital and pursue
SBIR and STTR programs to fund the commercialization of
their technologies. From there I co-founded an Internet
Start-up company and raised 1 million dollars and
eventually was able to take the company public in an
acquisition. The combination of my education and
experience allowed me the means to launch Alertgy and
bring it to where it is today.

How do you diversify your tech solutions so as to appeal
your target audience?
Alertgy provides the first non-invasive wearable continuous
glucose monitor and alert system to measure true blood
glucose. It sets diabetics free from having to think about
taking glucose measurements by allowing for fully
automated, continuous monitoring with pre-set alerts for
low or high glucose levels, as set by the user. The medical
device and diagnostic industry are constantly growing and
changing, with new technologies being introduced to the
market all the time. We are entering a new era of medicine
that will be significantly impacted by the incredible growth
and breakthroughs in wearables, cloud-based IoT sensor
systems, application of AI 10, and digital health.
What strategies do you undertake to make your
employees resourceful?
The strategy I undertake to make our employees resourceful
is to motivate them by leading through example, by
understanding what is important to them and giving them
an opportunity to meeting their need through their work
assignments.
What are some of the vital attributes, in your opinion,
that every leader should possess?
Having led Alertgy successfully since its inception, I
believe some of the vital attributes that every successful
leader should possess are humility, honesty, empathy, caring
for people that work with you, willingness to fall and learn
from mistakes, and open-mindedness are some of the must-
have qualities for an ideal leader. Additionally, I reckon that
a leader should have passion, ability to listen, forgiveness,
openness to learning, and a never-say-die attitude to thrive
in today’s competitive world.
How necessary is it to align business with technology
and what are its outcomes?
There is no question that business and technology go hand
in hand today and one cannot exist without the other. In the
case of Alertgy, our products would not be accessible to the
patient population without AI algorithms and Internet of
Things (IoT).
How do you sustain your entrepreneurial spirit in this
changing technological era?
Change is the only thing that is constant, and we must stay
ahead of the curve. Our world-class engineering team
adopted and implemented an aggressive AI and IoT
implementation strategy early on which is now bearing
fruit.
How do you deal with dynamics of market?
Market dynamics are everchanging, and challenges abound.
However, we thrive on competition and learning / pivoting
along the way in order to come up with a winning
combination of technology and patient applications that will
make life easier for tens of millions of diabetics and pre-
diabetics.
What advice would you like to give to the emerging
leaders?
Have a good attitude because it is critical, flexibility and
ability to recognize when you make mistakes and then to
solve them is also important.

One thing that really changed Sheri’s life was being fired
from her own company in 2017. After coding the app
herself and working tirelessly to build her company from
the ground up for years, she was terminated as CEO. The
even more disappointing thing is that once she left, the
company started a quick decline - losing most of its
customers, having a non-working product, and firing
countless employees. And to boot, just three months after
her departure she found out the company was being
liquidated. Sheri knew she couldn’t standby and let this
happen so when her offers to return and help went
unanswered, she began her journey of buying back the
assets herself. In 2018, she took out a personal loan and
used all of her remaining savings to purchase the

As CEO, Founder, and Technical Designer for GT Digital, I am responsible for all aspects of the company from a leadership perspective. In my current company and role, I designed the product, am raising the capital to fund the business, and evangelizing the company. How do you diversify your tech solutions so as to appeal your target audience? The first thing is to identify a problem that needs to be solved, is there a pain point or a gap that new technology can address. Tech solutions should solve problems not exist for tech’s sake. Artificial Intelligence is an interesting space to work in. It’s largely misunderstood and mis-interpreted. The term itself has become generic with too many meanings and most AI is not really AI. Helping people understand it is challenging. What was your life changing event/ incident that changed your life? When the “Internet bubble” burst, while I was not a dot- com company, the world changed. My engineering company was competing against well-established integrators, and as companies closed the market was flooded with consultants and engineers. It was time to re- invent myself. What strategies do you undertake to make your employees resourceful? Inspire them to think outside the box. Look at the whole picture not just parts of it. One of the most important is to allow them to do it their way, different is not wrong. How I do things is different than the way someone else might. Also, the most important thing is to respect the ideas and thoughts of others. What are some of the vital attributes, in your opinion, that every leader should possess? As I just mentioned, allowing the people under you to flourish, figure things out, guide where needed. Encouragement is important. In 2018, she took out a personal loan and used all of her remaining savings to purchase the SupportPay assets.
