Digital infrastructure in the form of high speed broadband, full fibre networks and 5G is top of Captains of Industry’s infrastructure investment wish list for the country according to a new survey by Ipsos MORI.
• 61% of Captains of Industry rate the country’s digital infrastructure negatively; 38% are positive
• They put digital infrastructure at the top of their investment wish list (this is a low priority for the public)
• Captains prioritise this despite being satisfied with their company’s broadband, and more satisfied than the public
• A majority agree that all parts of the UK should have equal access to broadband internet, but this group are most resistant than supportive of the idea of paying to ensure that businesses in rural areas have the same quality of access

METHODOLOGY
The Captains of Industry Survey 2018 involved
100 interviews with respondents from the top 500
companies by turnover, and the top 100 by capital
employed in the UK. 96 answered questions about
infrastructure.
Respondents were Chairmen, Chief Executive
Officers, Managing Directors/Chief Operations
Officers, Financial Directors, or other executive
board directors.
Interviews were primarily carried out face-to-face
(6 were carried out over the telephone) between
September and December 2018.
