2. Who was St George?
St George is the Patron Saint of England.
He was a Roman soldier who fought against the
Roman torture of Christians.
St George's Day is celebrated on 23rd April
each year.
3. What about the dragon?
There is a legend where St. George fought
against a dragon to rescue a princess and its
village.
St. George killed the dragon and from the
dragon’s blood a beautiful red rose was born.
Saint George took the rose and gave it to the
princess.
4. Presents
The red rose is the national flower of England
It is common that this day lovers give a rose as a
present to each other.
In some countries it is typical to give a book as
a present too because April 23rd is also the
World Book and Copyright Day, better known
as “the day of the book”.
