13. FIRST THING FIRST
Do research & market mapping on the type of job you want next in terms of:
job title variations of similar job scope
which type of company/industry would have the job titles or department related to
the job scope
If you are open in terms of the next industry/companies to join:
Google search: vacancy <"job title" AND "job title"> <location> OR
Trusted Job boards search - LinkedIn, Jobstreet etc.
and apply directly to the job ads found either on job boards or company career
portal
ISMALISHAK/JOBSEEKING101/201250919 13
14. YOU CALL IT CABLE, I CALL IT PROMOTER
If you are only interested in specific or limited companies and/or industries, ask yourself, do I
know anyone there?
YES!
- Pass your CV to your connection in the industry or company OR
- Get the contact details from them and email your CV to the Hiring Manager, cc'd to the
internal Talent Acquisition/Recruiter
NO…
- Go to job board & company website to check for related vacancies
- Submit a general application on their career portal
- Optional, get connected to the hiring manager or internal recruiter if they are on LinkedIn
and inquire
ISMALISHAK/JOBSEEKING101/201250919 14
16. YOU ARE GOLDEN…
…if your current profile matches exactly to the person described by the recruiters in
their advertisement. In fact, don’t be surprised with the VIP treatments you will receive
as they will do everything and anything to move the process and keep you interested.
However, if you are 1 level below the job’s seniority or your fit to the role is between
60 % to 90%, still apply to the role because you can always be the additional CV
for their KPI and who knows, you are the overall package that the client is looking for.
If you are none-of-the-above, expect delay or no response at all.
ISMALISHAK/JOBSEEKING101/201250919 16

ISMALISHAK/JOBSEEKING101/201250919 18
19. GREAT AGENCY, APPARENTLY!
NOW, WHAT DO I DO TO GET A JOB HERE?

industry you are targeting for
3. The recruiter who asks for exclusivity on your profile as this shows their

suitable vacancies within the same organization

recruitment agency

picking up a call from unrecognized number)
9. Work together with your recruiter, not expecting them to work for you
10. Start building your portfolio/interview folder, make sure latest salary slips are in
your possession and prepare for interviews by practicing
