This document is a research proposal on the streetscapes of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle area in Malaysia. The proposal outlines the research questions, objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes of conducting a one-day study of the streetscapes. The main research question is how streetscape planning is conducted in Malaysia. Specific objectives are to understand Malaysia's streetscape planning, enhance analytical skills, and increase knowledge of urban planning. 2. Introduction
We have chosen urban streetscape as our topic for this research report. Urban streetscape defines
as the design quality of the street and its visual effect in urban area. Our country spends lot of efforts on
planning the streetscape, including adding informative signage, providing safe and clean environment and
so on. We are purposely having a one day trip to the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur to conduct our
research. We hope that we can really learn more about urban streetscape throughout this project.
Research Subject
Main question : How is the streetscape planning in Malaysia?
Specific questions : 1. How efficient Malaysia’s signage is and what is the role of its in streetscape?
2. How does the courtyard design affect the qualities of streetscape?
3. What is the degree of permeability of pedestrian walkway to its surrounding
context in Malaysia?
4. How safe and hygiene Malaysia’s street is?
5. What is the experience of night and day of Malaysia’s street?
Objectives of the Research
Main : To understand the exact nature and composition of city streetscapes in Kuala Lumpur
Golden Triangle.
Specific : 1. To further understand Malaysia’s streetscape planning in order to promote economics,
tourism and social development.
2. To enhance our analytical skills in urban planning for further learning option and
observation skills on capturing details.
3. To enhance our knowledge and communication skills with the public.
Significances of Research
Main : To further understand the influences of streetscape to Malaysian’s lifestyle and living qualities.
Specific : 1. To improve the safety issues of Malaysia especially for the sector of 3 main types network :
pedestrian network, public and private vehicle network and railway network.
2. To figure out solutions of the problems that Malaysia facing nowadays.
3. To lead Malaysian get more familiar with their country streetscape and also introduce the
beauty of Malaysia streetscape to foreign, including clarified Malaysia’s city arrangement
3. for foreign to get easier to travel with.
4. To get basic acknowledgement about urban planning and be prepared for the students
taking urban related project.

Definition of Terminologies
1. Streetscape : A broad term to mean everything that makes up the scene on a street. The
typical elements include the road, buildings, sidewalks, street trees, street lights, benches,
trash receptacles, and adjoining open spaces.
2. Urban Planning : Can be described as a technical and political process concerned with
the welfare of people, control of the use of land, design of the urban environment
including transportation and communication networks, and protection and
enhancement of the natural environment.
