New – Giant voice testing on JBM-HH
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will be conducting a test of the Giant Voice
Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. This test will take approximately 20-30 minutes.
This test will be a reoccurring event and will take place every Tuesday at 10 a.m.
unless mission dictates otherwise.

New – Fire Safety Week – Oct. 5-11: Check to detect!
This week through Oct. 11 is Fire Safety Week. The focus this year is on having
working smoke detectors.

New – Power outage on Henderson Hall Oct. 14

2. Due to a base wide power outage, Henderson Hall will be closed on Tuesday,
Oct. 14. All services (MCCS, MCX and Marine Corps) will be closed for business. All
services will resume Wednesday, Oct. 15.
New – Semper Fit Remembrance 5K to be held Oct. 22
Registration is open for the Semper Fit remembrance 5K Race to be held Oct. 22

New – Wizards, NBA CARES day of service volunteer opportunity
As part of the Wizards commitment to ending hunger and homelessness,
Wizards players and coaches will participate in a day of service at the Capital Area
Food Bank Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. Players will prepare more than a 1,000 meals for children
and families via the Weekend Bag and Kid's Café program.
The Wizards are inviting members of the military to work alongside the team in

New – Monday Night Football at Spates Club
Stop by Spates Community Club on Mondays throughout the football season for
Monday Night Football. Doors open at 7 p.m. Free food is provided along with $1.50

New – Marine Corps Birthday Ball Nov. 1
Tickets are on sale now for the Headquarters and Service Battalion, Headquarters Marine
Corps, Henderson Hall 2014 Marine Corps Birthday Ball, to be held Saturday, Nov.1, at the
Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel. The ball, a formal event, celebrates the 239 Birthday of the
Marine Corps. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., the traditional ceremony starts at 7 p.m., and dinner and
dancing follow until midnight. This year’s guest of honor is Lt. Gen. Ronald L. Bailey, Deputy

New – Special education workshop for EFMP
JBM-HH Army Community Services will host a special education workshop for
exceptional family member program members Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the
ACS Bldg. 201. The workshop will focus on components of an IEP, relocating with an
IEP and special education laws and advocacy skills. This workshop is open to all DOD
ID card holders who are parents or service providers to children with special needs.

Locker verification requirements at Smith Gym
From Oct. 1-31, all Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gym patrons must verify that that they
still require a locker. Patrons should stop by the front desk to re-sign for lockers. The

3. deadline to verify locker requirements is Oct. 31. After Oct. 31, gym staff will cut off

Domestic Violence Prevention 1-Mile walk Oct. 11
The Henderson Hall portion of the joint base is hosting a one mile Four-Legged Friends
Against Domestic Violence dog walk Oct. 11. Registration starts at 8 a.m. on the top
level of the MCX parking garage on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. The
walk kicks off at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be available and prizes will be awarded for

All employees who are required to file a financial disclosure must also receive

Critical Incident Peer Support Training Oct. 20-24
The U.S. Army Military Police School, Behavioral Sciences Education & Training
Division will train Soldiers, DoD civilians and JBM-HH community members how to
provide an avenue for their peers to “talk out” their personal/professional problems
regarding critical incidents confidentially with fellow responders/investigators (non
professionals) who not only care a great deal about their well-being, but who also have
a first-hand understanding of their situation. The training will be held at Spates

Junior wrestling coaches, participants sought
JBM-HH’s Child, Youth and School Age Services junior wrestling registration is
underway until Nov. 14. The program is open to children of eligible Department of
Defense ID card holders. The program is coed.

Yoga Therapy for EFMP children
Learn about and experience yoga therapy designed for children with special needs Oct. 8

MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening,
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services.
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.
