What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Who Is My Target Audience? Firstly, I looked at my film and the themes and issues within it. After some consideration, I decided that I would aim for my target audience to be 12-17. This was because of the age of my main characters and the ‘you can do it’ message of my film.
Internet Based Research The internet based research I did into short films, their distribution and short film festivals helped me when doing my target audience research as it made me realise how different companies and difference genres widen and narrow its audience
My Questionnaire 11. Have you ever seen a social realism film? 12. Was it a worthwhile viewing experience? 13. If yes, why? 14. If no, why not? 15. Do you feel there is a gap in the market for a social realism film about teenage issues? 16. What are your views on bullying in a school environment? 17. Have you ever been bullied? 18. If so, what kind of effect did it have on you? 19. Do you think that bullying should be represented in a film? Why? 20. If a seventeen year old girl befriended a twelve year old boy, what would your initial thoughts be? 21. Have you ever been in a situation like that? 22. Do you think that these sorts of friendships should be represented in a film? Why? 1. How old are you? 2. What area do you live in? 3. How would you describe your area? 4. What do you understand by the term short film and what images does it conjure? 5. Do you enjoy short films? 6. Do you have a favourite short film? 7. Where do you watch short films? 8. How regularly watch short films? 9. How long do you think a short film should be and why? How does the length of 5mins affect their impact and the audiences’ enjoyment/appreciation? 10. What is your understanding of the social realism genre?
How I Asked the Questions I sent the questionnaire to a range of people in my target audience and a few to people out of the target audience, in order to get a full view on who would watch my film. I sent the questionnaire to people over the social networking site Facebook, this was because of the online culture which encompasses the age group I was aiming for.
What Did I Find Out? I found out that most people have been bullied and that everyone takes it seriously as an issue that has to be dealt with. I also found that some people immediately see something wrong with a friendship between a 17 year old and a 12 year old, whereas other people saw an innocent side to it. I got a completely positive reaction to whether a relationship of that sort should be represented in a short film.
Conclusion All in all, I have found that my short film would be welcomed into my target audience. They have stated that they would be interested in watching a short about bullying and also about the friendship of a 17 year old and a 12 year old.

How I Asked the Questions I sent the questionnaire to a range of people in my target audience and a few to people out of the target audience, in order to get a full view on who would watch my film. I sent the questionnaire to people over the social networking site Facebook, this was because of the online culture which encompasses the age group I was aiming for.
  • 6. What Did I Find Out? I found out that most people have been bullied and that everyone takes it seriously as an issue that has to be dealt with. I also found that some people immediately see something wrong with a friendship between a 17 year old and a 12 year old, whereas other people saw an innocent side to it. I got a completely positive reaction to whether a relationship of that sort should be represented in a short film.
  • 7. Conclusion All in all, I have found that my short film would be welcomed into my target audience. They have stated that they would be interested in watching a short about bullying and also about the friendship of a 17 year old and a 12 year old.
