PCL Construction uses IoT
with Azure to revolutionize
the construction industry
PCL Construction, headquartered in Edmonton, Canada, is
turning the centuries-old construction industry on its head with
a push toward digital technology and cloud services. Using
Microsoft Azure and Azure IoT technologies, PCL created the
mobile-ready Job Site Insights application to provide a
single-pane view into all aspects of construction. The solution
leverages Microsoft Office 365 and uses a wide variety of Azure
services, including Azure Digital Twins, to uncover deep insights
into the data. By gathering and analyzing IoT data, PCL is
improving its processes to increase safety, efficiency, and
productivity while positioning itself as a future-ready builder.

Gold Fields Limited Gold Mining Firm Deploys Office 365 ProPlus to Reduce Costs, Boost Productivity
Gold Fields Limited is a South African gold mining firm. Headquartered in Johannesburg, the company owns and operates mines on several continents including Africa, Australia, and South America. With employees working in different locations around the world, Gold Fields faced a challenge keeping workers on the same version of Microsoft Office. In addition, employee demand to access Office from more than one device was growing. When Gold Fields learned about Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, the full client version of Office delivered as a service, it decided to deploy the solution to a group of early adopters to evaluate the latest deployment and business productivity capabilities. By using Office 365 ProPlus, Gold Fields believes it can simplify administration, reduce licensing costs, provide support to multiple devices, and improve employee productivity.

Customer profile: Freeport-McMoRan is a natural resources firm, mostly focusing on producing copper and gold.
Challenge: The pressure to improve efficiency and save costs is felt across nearly all industries—and mining is no different. Mining companies are under immense pressure to extract more materials at the lowest possible cost. In order to become more agile and reduce overall IT spending, Freeport-McMoran wanted to be able to monitor and control operations centrally.
Solution: Freeport-McMoRan used the Accenture Hybrid Cloud Solution for Microsoft Azure to create a IoT platform that improves mining operations by securely connecting, managing and capturing machine-generated data from the trucks, drills and other assets in the mine.
Benefits: Working with Microsoft, Freeport-McMoRan was able to provide operations supervisors with a role-based mobile dashboard to analyze and react to near-real-time situations in the mine, enabling supervisors to take immediate action on items that impact mine production, ultimately driving revenue.
