Overview
VCE Backup, Recovery, and Archive (BURA) Assessment
Service provides detailed assessment of the backup,
recovery, and archive capabilities for a customer’s data
center. This assessment identifies gaps, recommends a
corresponding strategy, and develops a business case to
move the organization to a future state with known service
levels and predictable costs.
Many enterprise organizations are experiencing drastically
higher data growth rates, putting added pressure on IT
organizations’ ability to back up and restore data. While most
IT organizations employ a backup and recovery strategy,
most do not regularly update their strategy. They fail to
account for changes such as the move from physical to virtual
environments, criticality of production systems, and surging
data growth.

established service level agreements
 Establishing a strategy that sets the direction for service
level agreements by defining the business case,
reference architecture, and financial impact
 Identifying the organization’s current operational
capabilities, processes, and skills and developing a
baseline using maturity models and best practices
 Implementing efficient, repeatable, and cost-effective
processes for backup, recovery, and archive delivery
and management
 Assessing advanced storage technologies that support
distributed de-duplication processing, centralized
replication management, end-to-end data integrity, load
balancing, and link failover
 Developing a backup and archive service catalog,
reference architecture, and decision logic
 Developing a realistic implementation roadmap,
including a high-level, next-steps plan
