Produce a glossary of terms specific to the methods and principles of Video Game Design and Video Game Terms. Using a provided template,
you must research and gather definitions specific to provided glossary terms. Any definitions must be referenced with the URL link of the
website you have obtained the definition.
You must also, where possible, provide specific details of how researched definitions relate to your own production practice.

Demo A game demo is a freely distributed
demonstration or preview of an upcoming or
recently released video game.

starter options that the fullversion
does.

Beta A beta test refers to the distribution of pre-
release game software to a selectgroup of
people so that they can test the game in their
own homes.

or fault in a computer program or system that
causes itto produce an incorrect or unexpected
result,or to behave in unintended ways.

Rendering Rendering is the process of generating an image
from a 2D or 3D model (or models in what
collectivelycouldbe calleda scene file), bymeans of
computer programs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendering_(computer_
graphics)
Render distance in some gamescanbe
set to different lengths andit is usedto
set the range of what you cansee on a
game.
Render distance in Minecraft.
Normal Map In 3D computer graphics, normal mapping, or "Dot3
bump mapping", is a technique usedfor fakingthe
lightingof bumps and dents – animplementation of
bump mapping.

Entity An entityis something that exists in itself, actuallyor
hypothetically. It neednot be ofmaterial existence.
In particular, abstractions andlegalfictions are
usuallyregardedas entities. In general, there is also
no presumptionthat an entityis animate.

UV Map UV mapping is the 3D modellingprocessof makinga
2D image representationof a 3D model's surface.
Uv mapping shows in this image how
the player canbe designedfrom

Procedural
Texture
A procedural texture is a computer-generatedimage
createdusing analgorithm intendedto create a
realistic representationof natural elements suchas
wood, marble, granite, metal, stone, andothers.
Physics Computer animationphysics or game physics
involves the introductionof the laws of physics intoa
simulationor game engine, particularlyin 3D
computer graphics, for the purpose of making the
effects appear more real to the observer. Typically,
simulationphysics is onlya close approximationto
real physics, and computationis performed using
discrete values.
Minecraft usesphysics anda realistic
gesture when using TNT as you have to
set up a whole scene for it to work
properly.

Collision Collisiondetection typicallyrefers to the
computationalproblemof detecting the intersection
of two or more objects. While the topic is most often
associatedwith its use invideogamesandother
physical simulations, it alsohas applications in
robotics.

explosion looks like whenthe plane
collides withthe floor in GTA during a
crash landing.

AA – Anti-
Aliasing
Anti-aliasing mayrefer to anyof a number of
techniques to combat the problems of aliasingina
sampledsignal suchas a digitalimage or digital audio
recording.
With anti-aliasing, if it usespixels,
when turnedonit willblur out the
edges.
LoD – Level of
Detail
In computer graphics, accounting for level of detail
involves decreasing the complexityof a 3D object
representation as it moves awayfrom the viewer or
accordingto other metrics suchas object
importance, viewpoint-relative speedor position.
Level of detail techniques increases the efficiencyof
rendering bydecreasingthe workloadongraphics
pipeline stages, usuallyvertex transformations.
With LoD the more polys that you use
the more detailed the image will
become whencompleted.
Animation A simulationof movement created bydisplayinga
seriesof pictures, or frames. Cartoons ontelevision
are one example ofanimation. Animationon
computers is one of the chiefingredients of
multimedia presentations.

Sprite In computer graphics, a sprite (alsoknownbyother
names;see Synonyms below) is a two-dimensional
image or animationthat is integratedintoa larger
scene.
A sprite is the character that youmake
for the game you are designingor it
could alsobe a plane.
Scene A scene graph is a general data structure commonly
usedbyvector-basedgraphics editing applications
and modern computer games.
Cut scenes are used in everygame that
you will play. Theywillmostlybe used
at the start of a mission/race or the
end of a mission/race.
This is a cut scene from the game formula one before
the race.

you’re playing.

Frames Frames ina game are whenthe game looks like it is
lagging but it is a dropin the framessothe game
moves slower.
This image is not from a game but it is
a good example for whenthere is a
drop of framesinany situation.
The more frames per secondthe better the quality.
Concept Concept art shows the difference whenthe character
is drewandwhenthe drawinghas beenchanged
into a animation.

are designed.
