3. Consequences!!!
What are the consequences of
meeting your desires in a way that
God does not approve of?
In our diagram, its more pain, but
what does this mean exactly?
5. The bible is clear in telling us that sin
in our lives eventually ruins our life
The minds of the wicked are full of
evil; they are pregnant with wicked
plans, which give birth to lies.
15
They dig a pit to trap others,
but they are the ones who will fall
into it. Psalm 7:14-15
7. We tell lies
It’s not so bad
It’s hopeless
I need this
Nobody’s perfect
I’m not hurting anyone
Nobody can tell
It’s only for a little while
I can’t stop it
8. WHY DO WE JUSTIFY OUR SIN?
Luke 18:9-14 9
He also told this
parable to some people who trusted in
themselves and were confident that
they were righteous [that they were
upright and in right standing with God]
and scorned and made nothing of all
the rest of men:
Two men went up into
the temple [enclosure] to pray, the one
a Pharisee and the other a tax
9. 11
The Pharisee took his stand
ostentatiously and began to pray thus
before and with himself: God, I thank
You that I am not like the rest of men—
extortioners (robbers), swindlers
[unrighteous in heart and life],
adulterers — or even like this tax
collector here.
I fast twice a week; I give
tithes of all that I gain.
But the tax
collector, [merely] standing at a
distance, would not even lift up his eyes
10. to heaven, but kept striking his breast,
saying, O God, be favorable (be
gracious, be merciful) to me, the
especially wicked sinner that I am! I tell
you, this man went down to his home
justified (forgiven and made upright and
in right standing with God), rather than
the other man; for everyone who exalts
himself will be humbled, but he who
humbles himself will be exalted.
11. Pride…
Pride keeps us from the
truth, it keeps us locked into
a pattern of self-justification
It’s the original sin of satan
12. What to do?
1) Pray to God that he would reveal to
us just how much pride and deception
is in our lives.
13. What to do?
2) Go through the list of 50 sins of
pride and think about them. Which
ones are you struggling with. Ask the
Holy Spirit to open up your eyes.
14. What to do?
3) Confess your pride to God, point by
point and ask him to change you.
15. What to do?
4) Reflect on how pride affects your
relationships. Often this is one of the
big ones in marriage. Remember,
pride tries to get us to admit we are
right when we are not. Pride tries to
justify our lies and stand on shaky
ground. Shaky ground is dangerous
ground
16. What to do?
5) Take a step towards humility and
humble yourself before God and men
I Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves,
therefore, under God’s mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time.
