2. Hello, I’m James Balopitos, current student at Full
Sail University majoring in Sports Broadcasting.
While previously thinking political science was my
future career, I found my passion was what I always
enjoyed most all along. My main goals revolve
around bringing back originality in
sportscasting/sports journalism, as most in the
industry are stuck in the “my side vs yours”
argument that doesn’t result in viewers/fans being
more informed. With myself, you’re getting a true
sports fan who wants to see all plausible sides of an
argument rather than running to a hot take that
garners clicks but lacks validity. Too many in the
industry lack a love of the game, and I want to bring
back the “passionate analyst” that lets those who
follow know they aren’t being sold short.
IDENTITY
3. PROFESSION
Potential Job Titles:
• Commercial Analyst, Sportsbook,
FanDuel Sports
• NFL Commentator, Colorcast
• Sports Reporter, NY Times
Being that my brand archetype is
explorer, I’m genuinely focused
on giving the audience a different
perspective than the norm. There
are more exciting, in depth ways
to cover sporting events than
cheap takes or gotcha headlines.
Sports Analyst for Self Starter/Barstool Sports/The Ringer
4. [Sports Analysts/Journalists/Social Media Managers]
TARGET AUDIENCE
Rob Mahoney
Outreach Plan:
• Write a mock review piece for a game or team/player’s
season to date to highlight the skills I offer.
• DM on Twitter/Message on LinkedIn.
• Pending a response, I’d follow up instantly with
questions on how to improve/areas of my work lacking
appeal.
NBA Writer at The Ringer
Perry Mattern
Outreach Plan:
• Penning a meaningful page about my Jets fandom
along with adding some of my favorite highlights.
• DM on Twitter/Message on LinkedIn.
• Pending a response, I’d follow up instantly asking if
there’s any entry level/internship position available. I
know this team and can contribute immediately, so why
waste time.
Manager, Social Media at
New York Jets
Matthew Berry
Outreach Plan:
• Writing up a list of fantasy sleepers for the coming
Sunday’s slate of games and seeing the results.
• DM on Twitter/Message on LinkedIn.
• If those sleepers are all boom plays, sending the list to
Berry via Twitter and promising weekly picks, I’d want
to keep a weekly interaction with THE fantasy football
guy.

11. BRAND POSITION
For HIRING SPORTS MEDIA COMPANIES who
WANT REPORTERS/ANALYSTS WHO ACTUALLY
LIKE SPORTS, I provide A REAL FANS
PERSPECTIVE THAT REACHES THROUGH AND
DRAWS ALL AUDIENCES because I DON’T
CATER TO BLAND TALKING POINTS BUT
RATHER SHINE A LIGHT ON ARGUMENTS THE
EVERYDAY FAN WANTS TO HEAR.
“NICKNAME PENDING”
12. NETWORKING &
MARKETING
Industry Events & Organizations
• International Conference on Sports Analytics & Date
Science
‣ Aug 2022 - NYC, NY
• Dealmakers in Sports, SBJ
‣ Dec 2022 - NYC, NY
• SBC Summit North America
‣ Dec 2021- Secaucus, NJ
Digital Marketing
• Primary Content: Opinion pieces rooted in fact and based off of
what actually happened on the court/field, not a romanticized version
that borders on disinformation. I want readers/viewers to know my
work for validity, but also that the man behind it is personable and a
true fan, not another talking head.
• Primary Tools: To promote my personal website/LinkedIn, I’ll make
a Twitter account specifically to get my brand more public
recognition. Once well established, I’ll post online when I accomplish
something of notoriety, not every single day when there’s nothing
worthy to update consumers/employers on.
• Website: By putting a face on the brand, along with purchasing my
personal domain name, and establishing a social media page to
promote my content in the coming months.
13. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Mentor
• I’d look for a mentor with experience in the sports media
industry. Either having worked at a national media
outlet or 20+ years of dealing with an audience. Ideally
I’d want this mentorship established by 2025.

You know how sports talk is bland? Well, what I do is offer fresh
perspectives that get the average fan interested to hear more. In fact, let me
show you my personal website.
Forbes Most Valuable Brands List (2017): https://www.forbes.com/powerful-brands/list/
Apple 2. Google 3. Microsoft 4. Facebook 5. Coca-Cola 6. Amazon 7. Disney 8. Toyota 9. McDonald’s 10. Samsung
Methodology:
Forbes valued more than 200 global brands by looking at three years of earnings and allocating a percentage of those earnings based on the role brands play in each industry (e.g., high for luxury goods and beverages, low for airlines and oil companies). We applied the average price-to-earnings multiple over the past three years to these earnings to arrive at the final brand value.
