Jan Kåre Sjåholm has over 30 years of experience as an electrician working on offshore oil rigs. He is currently the Electrical Section Leader on the Ocean Rig Mykonos drillship, responsible for equipment commissioning, maintenance, documentation, and overseeing a team of 6 electrical engineers and electricians. Prior to this role, he worked on other Ocean Rig vessels and held electrician positions with various offshore drilling companies. He has extensive experience working with electrical control and power systems used on offshore rigs.

2. EXPERIENCE: March 2011 to December 2015 Ocean Rig North Sea/Ocean Rig International
O.R. Mykonos as Electrical Section Leader since commissioning started in March 2011. O.R
Mykonos is sixth generation drillship built at Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea, and was
delivered 29.09.2011. She is a DP class 3 drillship built for exploration and development in
ultra-deep water. Power is produced by a total of 6 ABB 7 MW generators supplying 3 main
switchboards 11kV. For the thrusters we are using 3000V for ABB ACS 6000 Thruster drives.
Low voltage system is 690V for the ABB Drilling ACS 800. The other low systems is 440/230V
distribution system delivered by Samsung. The rig is using Kongsberg
Navigation/DP/Automation systems, NOV PLC drilling control systems (Cyberbase), VSAT
communication systems and LAN/IT system onboard (Harris CapRock)
My responsibility as Section leader at the yard was the commissioning of equipment, both
control and power systems.
After delivery, I have been in charge of the upgrades, maintenance, documentation and daily
operation of the electrical department. STAR is used for maintenance/corrective work and
ordering of spare parts, this is part of my responsibility. I am also responsible for making work
instructions/procedures in my department, and have 2 Electronic Engineers and 4 electricians
in my department.
EXPERIENCE: NOV.2009 to MARCH 2011 Ocean Rig North Sea, New built project Korea
Since nov.2009 been working in Korea as Project Electrician Technician on the Drillship project
doing inspections and commissioning for O.R. Corcovado/Olympia/Poseidon and Mykonos
during building in yard.
EXPERIENCE: JAN.05 to NOV.09 Ocean Rig North Sea
With Ocean Rig as rig electrician on DP rig Erik Raude and Leif Eriksson. Senior electrician from
April 2007. Working on Hydralift drilling equipment, ABB drilling drives ACV 700; Megastar
drives for thrusters, daily use of Kongsberg SVC control system and Wasilla 6 kV diesel
generators.

3. As rig electrician on DP rig Scarabeo 5. Gone through black out routines (different levels), main
power distribution Systems, UPS power systems and emergency power system. Gone true
Drawing system onboard. Test, maintenance and calibration of Fire and Gas system.
Calibration, maintenance and fault finding on deck / gantry Cranes (gantry crane modified by
Maritime Hydraulic 2001). PM and Fault finding on Ex motors / equipment as Top drive, Mud
pumps and other drilling equipment PM routines / fault finding on person lifts columns and
derrick. PM routines / fault finding on equipment as 6 kV generators, Thrusters 6 kV, Top drive
and SCR brakes (600 VDC). Air purge system for over pressure of DC motors, fault finding on Rig
Power supply 400 V / 220 V / 24 V systems. January 2003 Hydra lift / Sense Technology started
to upgrade Drillers cabin and pipe handling equipment, paid assisters to them during the
project.
EXPERIENCE: APR. -96 TO OCT. - 98 NORSE ELECTRONICS A/S
Forman/crew leader for electrical & instrument installations. Several Jobs for companies like
Procon, Smedvig, Hydro, Saipem, Hitec and Transocean. The work has included things like: Heat
tracing / fibres Optics / high voltage installing and testing / motor installation and
Commissioning. From Jan. -98 to July – 98 worked as engineer on “Rig up / rig down procedure
for Rig 66” for Hitec / PPCON in Edmonton, Canada (Rig down) and Randaberg, Norge ( Rig up ).
EXPERIENCE: 1987 TO 1996 SØNNICO avd. PROCESS CONTROL
Offshore Ula / Gyda from 1993 to 1996 as electrician NSA/BP doing installation / maintenance
on electro and Instrument. 1992-93 worked as General Forman on Brage Onshore and offshore
with responsible of installation of equipment, pulling of cables, connection and testing,
Acceptance records, work permits and control before “Living up of systems”. 1987 – 92 worked
on different platforms onshore as Snorre, M 10 Oseberg C, Draugen and Oseberg A. Also
different industry/office buildings in Bergen area Electro and instrument.
EXPERIENCE: 1981 TO 1987 BERGEN LYSVERKER
From -81 to -84 as trainee electrical Gr. A, and from -84 to -87 as Electrician working on new
installation / modification on old Installation (from 220 V up to 22 kV).
