7. Master of Social Work Program
JCSU Master of Social Work Program is
designed to prepare social work graduates
who engage in advanced culturally
competent practice with individuals and
families, small groups, organizations and
communities.

required to complete a field placement in an
approved social work agency each
semester.

8. Biddle Freshman Program & Sit Lux Scholars
Biddle Freshman Program participants officially declare
their majors after earning a 2.5 GPA or higher at the end
of the first semester or a 2.0 or higher GPA at the end of
the second semester.
The Biddle Freshman Program at Johnson C. Smith
University is an academic enhancement program
designed to ensure high school students transition
effectively as college students during their first
year of study at the University.
Biddle Freshman Program participants are
registered for the same courses all freshmen take.
Participants are limited in the number of registered
credits (13-14 cred- its) during their first semester.
Students are supported by faculty teams,
academic advising, Biddle Institute sponsored
meetings, co-curricular activities, and com-
munity service events. Students are required to
meet with an Academic Advisor for assistance
with:
§ Exploring majors
§ Developing an academic plan
§ Improving time management and study skills
§ Obtaining referrals to University resources
The Sit Lux Research/Scholars Program is a
research based admissions and academic
support initiative that focuses on building on
the existing meta-cognitive strengths of
students and using those strengths for
academic success.
Accepted students must participate in a pre-
semester session, and are then registered for
classes with Biddle Institute professors.
The program consists of several intrusive and
mandatory components which are designed
to support students’ transition into the
University and provide academic assistance:
§ Skills/strength building workshops
Mentors to assist with the transition to
college
§ Tutoring sessions of at least 10 hours per
week
§ Academic advising sessions at least once
every two weeks

Development (CCPD)
Services and facilitating for student development,
career development, and professional
development. Holds JCSU Career, Graduate, and
Professional School Fair.
Academic Center for Excellence (ACE)
A center designed to assist undecided students in
developing and implementing meaningful plans in
preparation for advanced study and specific
careers.
Student Support Services (SSS)
A support center for eligible students that
provides one-on-one support, academic advising,
peer mentoring and tutoring, career and graduate
school exploration, and cultural and educational
enrichment activities.
Math Lab
Get assistance with math or math related courses
including finance, physics, and statistics for
behavioral science. Services include tutoring,
supplemental instruction and calculator
workshops.
The Writing Studio
Faculty and peer consultants are available to
assist you with generating ideas, grammar,
organization, creativity, and more.
