The enclosed information, initiatives and member involvement speaks to the chapter’s
persistence, innovation and dedication. Thank you for your consideration of ULGDYP
awards packet, which can only provide a snapshot of the chapter’s achievements over the
past year…the momentum continues!

It is with pleasure to submit this letter representing the unwavering enthusiasm and support of the
Urban League of Greater Dallas Young Professionals (ULGDYP). We proudly stand by your side in
this movement. The committed ULGDYP members, supporters and leaders share in the mission to
sustain the growth and impact of the National Urban League and our Dallas & North Texas affili-
ate.
The volunteers of the auxiliary of the Urban League of Greater Dallas & North Central Texas are
150+ next generation leaders with a mission to advance corporate, social and community service
agendas.

4th Annual Leadership
Development Conference
“Connect.Build.Share”
Our signature event is the Annual Leadership Development
Conference at JCPenney Headquarters. Young Professionals
from across the state of Texas gained tools for career advance-
ment, heard from powerful speakers, to understand the impor-
tance of giving back to their communities and gained advice on
building lasting relationships both personally and professionally.

Nearly 400 professionals, students, speakers, vendors and volun-
teers

$5,000 additionally raised at several pre-cursor events such as
A Toast to Dallas Wine Fundraiser, In The Spirit of Partnership
Town Hall Meeting
Sponsorships/new community partnerships through JCP,
Verizon Wireless, Microsoft, Aloft Hotel, Scripps Network, and National Development Council

Members of ULGDYP were selected to attend a
lecture of the 66th U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Con-
doleezza Rice, at the University of North Texas.
Dr. Rice spoke of her experiences under the Bush
Administration, and commented on important
social and cultural issues of today. She noted that
the state of education in our country is in a state of
national crisis that must be addressed.

Chairman
It was with great honor that 125 attendees,
ULGDYP received great words of wisdom from
National Urban League Chairman, John Hof-
meister. Mr. Hofmeister shared his leadership
experiences while working as the President of
Shell Oil Company his journey in his career and gave valuable insight on how companies recruit good talent.
He spoke about his journey as the Chairman of the National Urban League and stated that “Due to social
media leadership moments of today are instantaneous; it matters what a leader does everyday.”

Dallas Marathon Kids
In an effort to promote obesity awareness with kids in
the Dallas Independent School District, students were
challenged to run a 26.5 mile marathon over the
course of the school year. The students walked or ran
every Saturday until they reached their goal. ULGDYP
was there to help make the Final Mile Celebration a
memorable event for schools and families! We cheered
on the students at the starting line, throughout the
course and at the finish line. Additionally we helped
hand out medals and refreshments.
Service Hours/Attendance:
7 members; 17.5 hours
Make A Difference Day (MADD):
ULGDYP partnered with Concord Church to
assist in their Make A Difference Day. The
day consisted of 20-30 community service
activities. ULGDYP lead the efforts of prepar-
ing sack lunches, boxing materials, and men-
toring children from the Dallas community.
Service Hours/Attendance:
38 members; 99.5 hours
North Texas Food Bank
38 members of ULGDYP volunteered at the North
Texas Food Bank to prepare meal bags for seniors
and poverty-stricken families. We also sorted a
variety of food and drinks for snack boxes. The
boxes went to local food pantries for distribution
to churches, shelters and individual families.
Service Hours/Attendance:
35 hours; 7 volunteers
Back to School Supply Drive
August 2012, ULGDYP members purchased school
supplies to donate to children for the start of the
school year. Supplies included backpacks, pencils,
notebook paper, colored pencils, markers and cray-
ons. Over $550 worth of donations were raised and
were delivered and distributed to schools within the
Dallas Independent School District.

It’s Complicated: Dallas!
Paul Brunson, ULGDYP, and Dallas’ finest
entrepreneurs, and professionals, celebrated
the book release of “It’s Complicated: But It
Doesn’t Have to Be” by Paul Carrick
Brunson, of the Oprah Winfrey Network .
During the program, Paul Brunson dis-
cussed relationship building and manage-
ment in the new millennium.

National Join Week Campaign
ULGDYP participated in National Join Week
consisting of activities to attract new members.
ULGDYP was successful with a 25% increase in
new membership.
Week long events were led by our community
outreach, social, political activism, and health
and quality committees. Partnerships include:
TITLE KICKBOXING CLUB, for an evening
full of intensity with kickboxing classes

The Homeless Coalition of Dallas
Elite News, MLK Parade
Economic Empowerment Com-
mittee: Mock Invest Club
EEC initiated a mock investment club for
members to gain information about mutual
funds, stocks, and building a financial portfo-
lio without the risk of losing real money.
Members were divided into two teams, and
given a starting balance of $500,000 each.
Monthly calls were conducted to purchase,
trade and select investments to include in
their “mock” portfolio.
Team with the highest balance at the end of
each round wins and will be recognized
amongst the general membership.

TX YP Weekend
Members of ULGDYP along Austin Area Ur-
ban League of Young Professionals and
Houston Area Urban League of Young Pro-
fessionals traveled to Austin, TX for the 2nd
Annual Event.
100+ Urban League YP attendees

ramps for disabled elderly and park
cleanup
Dallas had the most attendees at 38
Hours/Attendees:
38 members; over 180 hours
How to Hit a Home Run in Your Career
The Texas Rangers hosted "How to Hit a Home Run in
your Career: An Evening at the Ballpark with Ron Wash-
ington, Manager and Gary Pettis, 3rd Base Coach of the Texas
Rangers."
Manager Washington and Coach Pettis provided insight on being
African American, the role baseball played in their own lives, and
the significant impact it can have on a child. This event lead to
the Rangers sponsorship of the NDoS STEM Youth Conference.
Hours/Attendees: 36 hours; 55 partici-
pants
Impact: $167 worth of non-perishable

Fit In The City 2013
ULGDYP hosted its 2nd annual Fit In The
City event. Breakfast was provided by My
Fit Foods.
The goal was to assist in identifying a
healthy lifestyle through fitness, nutri-
tion and increased knowledge.

as yoga, zumba, and boot camp, intra-
mural sports

Get on the Bus and NUL Conference
in New Orleans
45 YPs boarded a bus and let the good times roll as
we traveled to the National Urban League (NUL)
Conference in New Orleans and there were approxi-
mately 50 ULGDYP members to attend the NUL
Conference.
The camaraderie that the YPs built amongst each
other continues to gain even more momentum for
the movement in Dallas and North Central Texas.

Membership Referral Program
In an effort to promote the National Urban League Conference and build membership, ULGDYP un-
veiled the Referral Program. The winner with the most referrals will win their registration to the 2013
National Urban League Conference 2013 in Philadelphia. There were 15 referrals made by members
which resulted in $525 directly to the Affiliate.

Who Are You With?
The ULGDYP Political Activism Committee
hosted a networking and panel discussion
event entitled "Who Are You With?" A lively
discussion surrounded the topic of political
affiliations and their influence & effect on the
Black community.

ULGDYP has made significant progress in making an impact in the community. Not only
has there been a significant amount of time spent serving but there has been a great effort
to increase funding.
Over $14,000 was raised towards our affiliate through the following channels:

30% of our Membership DUES goes directly to the Affiliate
Over $75,000 has been raised in monetary or in kind donations
7 Days of giving campaign (December 26– January 1, 2013)
ULGDYP campaigned to raise funds that were utilized to expand and enhance our existing
programs:
Jobs- "Every American has access to jobs with a living wage and good benefits"
Education- "Every American child is ready for college, work and life"
Housing- "Every American lives in safe, decent, affordable and energy efficient housing on
fair terms"
We are constantly working to increase
funds. As a result we have submitted 5
videos in the “Be A Better Bud” Cam-
paign hosted by NULYP and Anheuser-
Busch.

S.T.E.M.ulating Success in Education
ULGDYP participated in NDoS with our Annual
STEM Youth Conference. Our Youth Conference was
a day filled with interactive workshops, engaging ac-
tivities, and amazing resources for students and par-
ents in the Dallas community.
Highlights from the Youth Conference include:

the 100 Scholars and Project Ready UL Pro-
grams
14 Parents in attendance for Parental In-
volvement Workshop

25+ Universities/Colleges, Community Or-
ganizations, and Military Services represented at the College/Informational

Two $250 Book Scholarships awarded to college-bound Seniors
$1000 raised from the $10 for 10 National Day of Service Campaign and

$1300 in giveaways (iPad, Graphing Calculators, Gift Cards, and S.T.E.M.
tools) to students throughout the conference

ULGDYP volunteered at the Annual

Erase HIV Youth Summit
ULGDNCTX held a Youth Summit with guest speakers,
food and community health information to raise awareness
and combat HIV and other STDs. ULGDYP lead the efforts
to coordinate the youth activities and coordinated guest
speakers.
National Day of Empowerment
In Celebration of National Day of Empow-
erment, ULGDYP raised funds by having a
Halloween Party. During the event atten-
dees were registered to vote!

YP made $500 Donation to 5K walk!
DFW Elite News Parade
ULGDYP volunteered in the annual DFW Elite News Parade.
The parade involved schools, businesses, community organi-
zations, and city/area leaders to honor the legacy of Dr. King.
ULGDYP represented the Affiliate to demonstrate the Urban
League's presence and support in the community.

  • 5. 5 LEADERSHIPDEVELOPMENT www.ulgdyp.org 4th Annual Leadership Development Conference “Connect.Build.Share” Our signature event is the Annual Leadership Development Conference at JCPenney Headquarters. Young Professionals from across the state of Texas gained tools for career advance- ment, heard from powerful speakers, to understand the impor- tance of giving back to their communities and gained advice on building lasting relationships both personally and professionally. Hours/Volunteers: 970 Hours/ 32 Volunteers Attendees: >400 Business Vendors: 12 Sponsorships: 17 Financial Impact: $50,000 (including in-kind) RESULTS: Nearly 400 professionals, students, speakers, vendors and volun- teers $50,000 in financial and in-kind donations $5,000 additionally raised at several pre-cursor events such as A Toast to Dallas Wine Fundraiser, In The Spirit of Partnership Town Hall Meeting Sponsorships/new community partnerships through JCP, Verizon Wireless, Microsoft, Aloft Hotel, Scripps Network, and National Development Council
  • 6. 6 LEADERSHIPDEVELOPMENT www.ulgdyp.org Members of ULGDYP were selected to attend a lecture of the 66th U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Con- doleezza Rice, at the University of North Texas. Dr. Rice spoke of her experiences under the Bush Administration, and commented on important social and cultural issues of today. She noted that the state of education in our country is in a state of national crisis that must be addressed. Hours/Participants: 44 hours; 22 participants Impact: Exposure to cultural issues and education May Meeting Speaker John Hofmeister National Urban League Chairman It was with great honor that 125 attendees, ULGDYP received great words of wisdom from National Urban League Chairman, John Hof- meister. Mr. Hofmeister shared his leadership experiences while working as the President of Shell Oil Company his journey in his career and gave valuable insight on how companies recruit good talent. He spoke about his journey as the Chairman of the National Urban League and stated that “Due to social media leadership moments of today are instantaneous; it matters what a leader does everyday.” The Partner Program The Partner/ Accountability Program is a 9-month program in- tended to facilitate career development for members. Modeled after FedEx and AT&T management programs Consists of 17 profession- als in entry, mid, and senior levels professionals In groups of 4-5, each professional is matched with a seasoned part- ner lead to discuss career development and other opportunities for growth Distinguished Lecturer Condoleezza Rice Hours/Participants: 64 hours thus far, 22 Participants Impact: Targeted devel- opment per industry

  • 8. 8 COMMUNITYIMPACT www.ulgdyp.org Dallas Marathon Kids In an effort to promote obesity awareness with kids in the Dallas Independent School District, students were challenged to run a 26.5 mile marathon over the course of the school year. The students walked or ran every Saturday until they reached their goal. ULGDYP was there to help make the Final Mile Celebration a memorable event for schools and families! We cheered on the students at the starting line, throughout the course and at the finish line. Additionally we helped hand out medals and refreshments. Service Hours/Attendance: 7 members; 17.5 hours Make A Difference Day (MADD): ULGDYP partnered with Concord Church to assist in their Make A Difference Day. The day consisted of 20-30 community service activities. ULGDYP lead the efforts of prepar- ing sack lunches, boxing materials, and men- toring children from the Dallas community. Service Hours/Attendance: 38 members; 99.5 hours North Texas Food Bank 38 members of ULGDYP volunteered at the North Texas Food Bank to prepare meal bags for seniors and poverty-stricken families. We also sorted a variety of food and drinks for snack boxes. The boxes went to local food pantries for distribution to churches, shelters and individual families. Service Hours/Attendance: 35 hours; 7 volunteers Back to School Supply Drive August 2012, ULGDYP members purchased school supplies to donate to children for the start of the school year. Supplies included backpacks, pencils, notebook paper, colored pencils, markers and cray- ons. Over $550 worth of donations were raised and were delivered and distributed to schools within the Dallas Independent School District.

Paul Brunson, ULGDYP, and Dallas’ finest entrepreneurs, and professionals, celebrated the book release of “It’s Complicated: But It Doesn’t Have to Be” by Paul Carrick Brunson, of the Oprah Winfrey Network . During the program, Paul Brunson dis- cussed relationship building and manage- ment in the new millennium. More than 17 ULGDYP volunteers More than 175 attendees Sponsored by X Rated Fusion Liquor Media coverage included radio stations, 97.9 The Beat and Old School 94.5 Hours/Volunteers 85 hours; 17 Volunteers National Join Week Campaign ULGDYP participated in National Join Week consisting of activities to attract new members. ULGDYP was successful with a 25% increase in new membership. Week long events were led by our community outreach, social, political activism, and health and quality committees. Partnerships include: TITLE KICKBOXING CLUB, for an evening full of intensity with kickboxing classes Redbird Skateland The Homeless Coalition of Dallas Elite News, MLK Parade Economic Empowerment Com- mittee: Mock Invest Club EEC initiated a mock investment club for members to gain information about mutual funds, stocks, and building a financial portfo- lio without the risk of losing real money. Members were divided into two teams, and given a starting balance of $500,000 each. Monthly calls were conducted to purchase, trade and select investments to include in their “mock” portfolio. Team with the highest balance at the end of each round wins and will be recognized amongst the general membership.   • 10. 10 MEMBERSHIPDEVELOPMENT www.ulgdyp.org TX YP Weekend Members of ULGDYP along Austin Area Ur- ban League of Young Professionals and Houston Area Urban League of Young Pro- fessionals traveled to Austin, TX for the 2nd Annual Event. 100+ Urban League YP attendees 3 Service projects: including building ramps for disabled elderly and park cleanup Dallas had the most attendees at 38 Hours/Attendees: 38 members; over 180 hours How to Hit a Home Run in Your Career The Texas Rangers hosted "How to Hit a Home Run in your Career: An Evening at the Ballpark with Ron Wash- ington, Manager and Gary Pettis, 3rd Base Coach of the Texas Rangers." Manager Washington and Coach Pettis provided insight on being African American, the role baseball played in their own lives, and the significant impact it can have on a child. This event lead to the Rangers sponsorship of the NDoS STEM Youth Conference. Hours/Attendees: 36 hours; 55 partici- pants Impact: $167 worth of non-perishable items Fit In The City 2013 ULGDYP hosted its 2nd annual Fit In The City event. Breakfast was provided by My Fit Foods. The goal was to assist in identifying a healthy lifestyle through fitness, nutri- tion and increased knowledge.   • 11. 11 MEMBERSHIPDEVELOPMENT www.ulgdyp.org Get on the Bus and NUL Conference in New Orleans 45 YPs boarded a bus and let the good times roll as we traveled to the National Urban League (NUL) Conference in New Orleans and there were approxi- mately 50 ULGDYP members to attend the NUL Conference. The camaraderie that the YPs built amongst each other continues to gain even more momentum for the movement in Dallas and North Central Texas. $1000 profit was raised. On Average 25% of Dallas YPs attend National Urban League Conferences Membership Referral Program In an effort to promote the National Urban League Conference and build membership, ULGDYP un- veiled the Referral Program. The winner with the most referrals will win their registration to the 2013 National Urban League Conference 2013 in Philadelphia. There were 15 referrals made by members which resulted in $525 directly to the Affiliate. Service Hours/Attendance: 19 members; 44 hours Who Are You With? The ULGDYP Political Activism Committee hosted a networking and panel discussion event entitled "Who Are You With?" A lively discussion surrounded the topic of political affiliations and their influence & effect on the Black community.   • 15. 15 FUNDDEVELOPMENT www.ulgdyp.org ULGDYP has made significant progress in making an impact in the community. Not only has there been a significant amount of time spent serving but there has been a great effort to increase funding. Over $14,000 was raised towards our affiliate through the following channels: Corporate Partnerships and Sponsors $10 for 10 Campaign for STEM related programs Individual contributors Various outreach programs 30% of our Membership DUES goes directly to the Affiliate Over $75,000 has been raised in monetary or in kind donations 7 Days of giving campaign (December 26– January 1, 2013) ULGDYP campaigned to raise funds that were utilized to expand and enhance our existing programs: Jobs- "Every American has access to jobs with a living wage and good benefits" Education- "Every American child is ready for college, work and life" Housing- "Every American lives in safe, decent, affordable and energy efficient housing on fair terms" We are constantly working to increase funds. As a result we have submitted 5 videos in the “Be A Better Bud” Cam- paign hosted by NULYP and Anheuser- Busch. OUR SPONSORS

Our Youth Conference was a day filled with interactive workshops, engaging ac- tivities, and amazing resources for students and par- ents in the Dallas community. Highlights from the Youth Conference include: 102 high school students participants from the 100 Scholars and Project Ready UL Pro- grams 14 Parents in attendance for Parental In- volvement Workshop 38 Volunteers/Mentors 25+ Universities/Colleges, Community Or- ganizations, and Military Services represented at the College/Informational Fair Two $250 Book Scholarships awarded to college-bound Seniors $1000 raised from the $10 for 10 National Day of Service Campaign and Sponsorship $1300 in giveaways (iPad, Graphing Calculators, Gift Cards, and S.T.E.M. tools) to students throughout the conference

We have suc- cessfully given back through vol- unteer hours, monetary donations and in-kind donations. MAY IS AFFILIATE SERVICE MONTH! During the month of May, ULGDYP focused all our service toward our Affiliate. Introduced skills-based service which can include creating spreadsheets, brainstormed for events, and helped staff anyway possible. We volunteered every Thursday & Saturday in May. Service Hours: 200+ hours 32 volunteers Urban League of Greater Dallas North Central Texas (ULGDNCTX) Gala ULGDYP volunteered at the Annual ULGDNCTX Gala. The Gala is the largest fundraising event for our Affiliate. 22 volun- teers assisted in the following areas: $2000 Table Sponsor Event Planning Registration Training of volunteers Setup/cleanup crew ULGDNCTX Annual Meeting Luncheon The ULGDNCTX holds an annual business luncheon for all of its sponsors and supporters every February. ULGDYP sponsored a $500 table.
  • 18. 18 AFFILIATESUPPORT www.ulgdyp.org Erase HIV Youth Summit ULGDNCTX held a Youth Summit with guest speakers, food and community health information to raise awareness and combat HIV and other STDs. ULGDYP lead the efforts to coordinate the youth activities and coordinated guest speakers. National Day of Empowerment In Celebration of National Day of Empow- erment, ULGDYP raised funds by having a Halloween Party. During the event atten- dees were registered to vote! Registered 42 people to vote Collected $80 cash 60 can goods and donated to the Affiliate. YP made $500 Donation to 5K walk! DFW Elite News Parade ULGDYP volunteered in the annual DFW Elite News Parade. The parade involved schools, businesses, community organi- zations, and city/area leaders to honor the legacy of Dr. King. ULGDYP represented the Affiliate to demonstrate the Urban League's presence and support in the community. 25 Attendees for 8 hours YP members attended the play FELA! at the Win- spear Opera house. A portion of ticket sales went to the Urban League Affiliate.
