  2. 2. TeamEXCEL OVERVIEW An important objective for Jarden Consumer Solutions is the development of a collaborative leadership environment built around coaching, teamwork and communication. To help support this, we have developed TeamEXCEL, a three-day leadership development program. The program will provide a substantive learning experience in the areas of interpersonal skills, leadership, communication, teamwork and coaching. TeamEXCEL is developed on the premise that in a fast-changing environment, with increasing spans of control and increased pressure for individuals to perform and deliver results, it is more critical than ever for managers to provide a leadership environment that focuses on communications, teamwork and trust. The core of the TeamEXCEL workshop is a leadership model focused on several key behaviors and skills that will help individuals create a workplace distinguished by outstanding performance and employee satisfaction. Specifically, individuals will learn how to: • Create an environment that promotes and sustains learning; • Understand the impact of personality and interpersonal skills as it relates to self, team and organizational effectiveness; • Improve leadership effectiveness by understanding what leader behavior is appropriate; • Enhance day-to-day performance through coaching, feedback and recognition; • Improve the quality and quantity of output through teamwork; • Transform resistance to change into collaboration and support; and • Present improvement ideas to management. TeamEXCEL is grounded in the skills and best practices of the past and present. Individuals will return to work with greater confidence, self-awareness and inspiration. THE COURSE MODULES TeamEXCEL is designed to promote effective group and team management by helping individuals focus on results, processes, and relationships. These factors include understanding the dynamics for how people learn, and the impact our behavior has on learning. Also included is how we make decisions and the impact of collaboration, openness and trust on those decisions. This includes valuing differences—in individual styles and approaches. Finally, leadership is a complex process that requires a balance between directing and delegating, coaching and feedback, and providing the support when required. 1. The Learning Organization The essence of an organization is for superior performance in their people, processes, and products. Building a learning organization, one where quality is paramount, where customers come first, where employees at all levels are contributing, and where we capture and share ideas is our goal. It is the leader’s responsibility to develop and sustain this framework for learning. Participants will be introduced to Jarden Consumer Solutions’ CoreValues and how they relate to the disciplines required for a learning organization. 2. Interpersonal Skills and Assessment Effective leaders build a framework for performance and satisfaction by balancing their focus between results, processes and relationships. Understanding how differences between people impact relationships is an important managerial competency. Participants will be introduced to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI). The MBTI helps people and organizations understand differences between people and in that understanding develop teamwork, communication and trust. 3. Leading for Results Leadership is a developed skill. Over time, most managers develop patterns for directing and leading. These patterns are the result of successes that have produced a desired outcome. Unfortunately, too often managers rely on a single style of leadership for all situations. Participants will be introduced to Situational Leadership® ; a model and approach for applying the appropriate leadership style given a unique situation. 4. Bringing Out the Best in Others through Coaching, Feedback and Recognition In this changing and challenging work environment, making the best use of employees’ skills, knowledge and abilities is more critical than ever before. To meet this challenge, managers must provide the support and motivation to help individuals succeed. Coaching is one of the most powerful skills a manager can possess. Individuals will learn to identify a coaching opportunity, confirm that a person is ready for coaching, listen to clarify the situation, and develop a course of action. To support coaching, participants will further develop skills in giving and receiving feedback, and the impact this has on performance. The module will conclude with recognition. 5. Developing Trust through Teamwork Today’s complex business environment requires an interdependence of individuals and departments. Implementing new systems, changes and programs requires people to work together in ways previously not required. The essence of teamwork is the belief and understanding that we will optimize our results and output as a synergized group versus individual efforts. Participants will be given several opportunities to engage in challenging activities that explore team concepts. 6. Thriving on Change One of the biggest obstacles to achieving personal and organizational goals is for individuals to capitalize on change. Many managers resist change not because they fear the change itself, but for the unpleasant process of transitioning. Change involves both fear and trust, letting go of the past, and simultaneously grasping the future. This module will help managers examine the process of change and the transition phases everyone goes through. To energize employees through change, participants will work through a five-step plan to help motivate themselves and others during the change process. 7. Bringing It All Together: The Action Dialog Driving the culture change process is an important objective of the TeamEXCEL program. Developing a high-performing work culture requires the efforts of everyone from senior management to front-line employees. This module is a group planning exercise that focuses on addressing elements to continue the efforts in creating a world-class culture at Jarden Consumer Solutions. The process culminates with a dialog with key members of senior management.
