• The purpose of this intervention workshop is to help you
understand academic probation and its implications on you as a
student.
3. What is academic intervention?
• Academic Intervention is a term used by the college when your
cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls below a 2.0.
• When this occurs, a student is required to complete some type of
intervention.
• As a student, we encourage you to review the official policies and
procedures that govern students on academic probation.
4. What are the consequences of
academic probation?
• Registration holds
• Possible financial aid restrictions
• Ineligible to graduate
• Possible dismissal from the college
5. What should I do now?
• Identify the barriers that prevent your success.
• Develop a plan to address those barriers including:
• Balancing work and school
• Scheduling adequate study time
• Utilizing campus resources
• Communicating with your instructors
• Following up with your advisor
6. Should I change my major?
• No, not necessarily. But ask yourself:
• Did I fail because I was not interested in the class content?
• Am I still interested and excited about this major?
• Am I thinking about other interests and possible majors?
• Talk with your advisor on possible majors
7. Should I repeat the class I failed?
• It is highly recommended that you repeat a course you failed that you
still need the following semester.
• It is not always advisable to retake classes during the condensed
summer semester.
• Keep in mind if you fail a class, you are allowed 3 more chances to
pass the class at Owens.

During class:
• Take notes
• Ask questions when you are confused
