Recruitment OF FAMILIES
FindingTHE ANSWERS
Foster care and adoption can present a
lot of questions. We provide information,
referral, and support at every stage of the
process. The Coalition offers objective,
accurate answers and connections to needed
resources.
• Comprehensive family of websites about
foster care and adoption
• Informational tip sheets, videos, contact
lists
• Lending Library of foster care- and
adoption-related materials available in
person or via the Internet
• Email newsletters and quarterly
publications available online
• A full staff of Resource Specialists who are
available to listen and provide resources,
information, and support
Over 6,500 children are in foster care, which means
additional foster and adoptive homes are always needed.
• Marketing campaigns that include television public
service announcements, radio spots, and billboards
• Child-specific case file reviews
to help find potential connections for children in out-of-
home care
• Consultation services that provide resources and
recommendations to county and tribal agencies
working to recruit foster homes more effectively in
their area
• Online photo listing services and a bi-annual
publication featuring children and youth waiting
for permanency
We know that families and child welfare
staff who support children and youth
touched by foster care and adoption
often need support, nurturing, and care.
One of the ways the Coalition provides
that support is through training and
education, allowing caregivers and staff
the opportunity to hone existing skills
and learn new ones, too.
• Trainings available throughout
the year, either in person or
web-based
• Parent and professional conferences
featuring nationally recognized
speakers and curricula
• Our Home Our Family – a relationship
and communications training
program created specifically for foster
and adoptive parents
• Promoting trainings and other events
offered by agencies and organizations
across the state
The journey of adoption does not
end with an adoption finalization.
The Coalition provides continuing
support and resources to families
who have completed all types of
adoptions. In doing so, we hope to
help children and youth heal and
build trusting relationships, and
to give caregivers and parents the
tools they need to be strong, stable,
and sustainable families.
• Home to Stay®
– visiting families
who have completed the
adoption of a child from foster
care and providing the children
in that home with personalized
backpacks. In addition, the
visits give Coalition staff an
opportunity to share additional
resources and information
with parents, and to establish
a connection for continued
support.
• Family fun events to promote
and encourage adoptive families
to get together with other
parents and children and share
experiences
• Supportive and trained Resource
Specialists available to listen
and act as sounding boards and
touchstones
“You’re not alone
and you shouldn’t be
alone when you’re
trying to support
your kids through
this [journey of
adoption].”
“Support from the
Coalition really
makes a difference
for families which,
in turn, makes
a difference for
children.”
“If you’re at the
beginning of your journey,
think of what you need
along the way. You need a
lot . . . and you need
a road map. The Coalition
is your road map. It’s
somebody that can keep
pointing you in the right
direction . . . travelling
partners that are going
to make the journey
so much lighter.”
