Program(s)/Tools:

Objectives:
To mimic the style of Saul Bass, while making the poster imformative and
artistic at the same time.
Process:
I researched Saul Bass’ style and background extensively. Then I sketches some
ideas of posters that I felt would fit his style. This idea came after seeing a poster
for the movie Psycho while I was researching. I used the line, shapes and text
tools in illustrator. I also has to use the text on path option so that I could flip
the text at the bottom to make it look like it had fallen in to a heap. The San
Francisco Muesum of Modern Art logo was provide and that was placed in the
design as is. I purposely crowded the edges with the text to create a similar
tension found in Saul Bass work.

Objectives:
Learn to use illustrator’s shape and pen tool to create a logo.
Process:
I sketched out some ideas that were in my head. Once I had settle on a sketch
I started create a digital version in illustrator. I had to use the shapes tool,
pen tool, stroke, fill, text tool and alignment to create my ideas.I created the
business card background image in illustrator using the head of the simplified
logo at 15% opacity. Once I was satisfied with the designs, I created jpgs and
added them to InDesign. I wanted to display all three together. I used a wood
background to help the design not blend in to the art board.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator, Notepad++, and Google Fonts
Objectives:
Learned the basics of HTML and CSS in order to create this webpage.
Process:
I create the logo in illustrator and saved it as a .png. I sketched out an idea of
how I wanted the page to be laid out. I reviewed my letterhead and business
card to find ideas I could repeat on this page. I like the background on the
business card, so I planned to reuse that. I opened the HTML and CSS files and
began customizing them. Luckily I had saved the hex colors when I created
logo previously, so I had those for reference. Once I had the necessary codes
I recolor links, and creating bullets from images. I also used google fonts in
order to make the font choices more appealing.

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (for logo)
Objectives:
Learned about grid and exporting a style folder so a programmer could
match the look I have created when building the site.
Process:
I decided to go with the business identity logo and work off that idea. I knew
this was going to be for children, so I wanted color, but I also knew parents
would be the ones on the website, so I wanted it to look somewhat classy for
them. I sketched out my idea. Because of the flow of my logo, it needed to be
left aligned. I also wanted an image of a parent reading with their children,
so I left you for that. Being a book store there also need to be a way to search
for books. Once my pen sketch was done I made the shape map on the 12
grid. I did this in photoshop. I then made a digital version on top of my shape
map, but hid the shape map once I had the main elements showing. After the
critiques I had a lot of changes to make. I updated the logo, added a search bar,
background color to the selected menu page. Added more text and cleaned
up some other elements.

Objectives:
Use the pen tool, clipping masks, and layers to create an appealing layout.
Process:
I created the logo in Illustrator. I found a graphic of chocolate chip and traced
that and used complementary fonts for the type. Next I went in to InDesign and
started my brochure. I chose an offset brochure. I adjusted the cookie images
in photoshop so that their coloring and intensity were similar. I found a green
ornament that worked and edited that in photoshop to have a transparent
background. I also recolored it so I would have a red orament version of it as
well. In InDesign I tried a few drafts before settling on my final layout.

Process:
I researched surveys about peoples favorite holidays, favorite gifts, least
favorite gifts. I didn’t love the survey results, so I posted my own survey monkey
survey and got 100 people to take it. I created vector graphics of santa using
illustrator. I created digital sketch but was really unhappy with the result, so I
made A LOT of adjustments. I did this entire project in illustrator.I even created
the bar graph using illustrator.

Objectives:
Learn to use photoshop to make image adjusts, add text and shapes.
Process:
I edited my photo in photoshop. Increasing the vibrance levels and playing
with the selective color option, adjusting the neutrals, in order to get the
background black. And saved when I was happy. I then opened a new 8.5 x 11
art board and placed the image in it. I liked the placement of the fruit, so I left
it there on the right. I added a block of the teal to the left as the background
for the quote. Then another block of teal on the right balance it out. Since it
overlapped the fruit, I reduce the opacity to 50% so you could see the fruit
bowl through it. I added a separate layer for each shape and text, including
the three dots that showed my color scheme. I also repeated these dots on the
other side for balance. The quote text wasn’t standing out, so I added an inner
shadow to it to help it pop.

Objectives:
Learn to use the masking tool in photoshop, as well as type, and image
alterations to make things unified.
Process:
I had an idea for this poster, but first sketched out what I was hoping to create.
I found the images that were needed to create the look. It ended up being
four images, a mountain, bell tower, starry sky and snowy city street. Using the
layers and masks in photoshop I layered the images in the ordered needed.
I then used the brish tool to hide and expose the portions of the layer. Once I
was satisfied, I added text on top of the photograph, using contrasting fonts to
give key phrases in the quote more emphasis.

Objectives:
Learn to use the masking tool in order to blend images.
Process:
I hunted for images of mothers and children that seemed “real life” to me. I
wanted to finished product to put a smile on peoples faces. I created and 8.5 x
11 art board in photoshop and added the spaghetti baby picture to it. I added
a new layer for each additional picture, the mom jumping on the bed and
the laundry one. Each layer had a mask that allowed me to blend the images
together. Once I was happy with that I saved a photoshop file with the layers,
then flattened the image and saved as another file. Working from the flattened
image, I copied that layer and made the copy black and white. Then I added
a mask to that layer. Using the brush tool I made the orange show through on
the babies face. I added text and right aligned it. To add interest, I changed the
color and font of the word wonderfully. I also used the text tool to shape the
word in to a banner shaper. I also repeated the font style of the word wondefully
for Jeffrey R Hollands name to tie those together.

Description:
The goal was to create a prezi presentation that taught others how to do something
and to show that prezi is a powerful presentation tool.

Prezi Presentation Software
Objectives:
To learn how to usse the Prezi Presentation Software.
Process:
My initial idea that I sketched did not end up being what I did. I originally
wanted to create a background with a large 44 oz. soda bottle and have the
points displayed around it. But as I got brainstorming, I kept having the idea
of the background being a textural shot – a close up of cola and ice. I used
my camera and began taking pictures of soda in a glass, a fountain drink cup,
and lids. I later had to come back and take a picture of the drink “spilling”
for the final frame of the presentation. I was going to edit the photos before
entering them, but noticed that prezi had some effects that could be applied to
images, so I used the “Avenue” filter on all my images. It made the colors pop.
My background image of ice and soda was never filtered. I felt it kept it from
getting as blurry when I zoomed in my the different slides.
