4. Pfeiffer Partners Architects
Pfeiffer Partners Architects is a full-service
planning, architectural and interior design
firm with offices located in Los Angeles and
New York City. The firm’s work is diverse,
encompassing educational, cultural and
commercial buildings for non-profit, private
and public clients.
Leadership
Pfeiffer Partners’ 56-person firm is led by
nine Principals: Norman Pfeiffer, FAIA; Jean
Marie Gath, LEED AP; William Murray, AIA;
Stephanie Kingsnorth, AIA, LEED AP; Gili
Meerovitch, CID, IIDA, LEED AP; Lorenzo
Mattii; Kevin O’Brien, AIA, LEED AP; Stephen
Epstein; and Sharon Murphy, along with six
Associates. Every project is conducted under
the leadership of a Principal and a dedicated
project team that remains involved from in-
ception to completion.
services
Pfeiffer Partners offers clients a range of
planning and design services, building upon
the proven professional methodologies es-
tablished for more than 40 years. Our ser-
vices include:
• Architectural and interior design
• Site and master planning
• Historic renovation, preservation and
adaptive reuse
• Urban design
• Feasibility studies and cost analysis
• Construction administration
• Furnishings, fixtures and equipment spec-
ification and installation
Our work is carried out via various project
delivery methods including traditional de-
sign/bid/build, construction manager at-risk
and design/build approaches, tailored to
meet individual client needs.
design philosophy
Pfeiffer Partners approaches each project
without preconceived notions about style
and aesthetics, responding uniquely to
the client’s ideas, site conditions and func-
tional requirements. We excel in particular
with forward-thinking clients whose vision
reaches beyond established benchmarks,
who value experimentation and customized
approaches. Fundamental to our design
philosophy is our abiding sense of design
as a collaborative undertaking. No where
is this more evident than in fine and per-
forming arts, which by their very nature,
are the most collaborative of all art forms.
Here, architecture is at its best when it ad-
vances the art form by providing spaces
that enhance the environment in which art
is created, perfected and experienced.

5. planning and consensus building
We believe that the best buildings respond
to a clearly articulated space program and
are informed by broader planning issues of
circulation, open space, landscape, access
and geographic context. As such, many of
our projects begin with a detailed program-
ming and planning effort, making sure the
parameters for design are well established.
In addition, projects today must respond to
a variety of constituents ranging from cam-
pus groups to community organizations and
public review agencies—each of whom have
their own priorities. Our senior level staff
are well versed in leading participatory pro-
cesses that build consensus and that result
in projects that receive the broadest level of
support and approval.
interiors
For Pfeiffer Partners, inventive building inte-
riors that result in a memorable experience
for visitors and users alike, are pivotal to
successful design solutions. We are chal-
lenged by opportunities to tailor off-the-
shelf materials to new uses, by at-times bold
and unusual applications of pattern, texture
and color and by clients who desire distinc-
tive spaces that reflect their particular iden-
tity or institution.
sustainability
Environmentally-conscious design is a hall-
mark of Pfeiffer Partners’ practice. Our
LEED-accredited professionals work in con-
junction with the client and the consultant
team to prioritize and implement sustain-
able approaches regarding site, materials,
building systems, delivery methods and
installation and disposal techniques. Cur-
rently 18 of our professional staff are LEED-
accredited and we have 15 projects in vari-
ous stages of approval for LEED certification
levels.
Recognition
An award-winning practice since its incep-
tion as Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates
(HHPA) in 1967, our work has been con-
sistently recognized by the building industry
and our peers, including being named AIA
Firm of the Year Award in 1981. The firm
has also received regional and national
AIA architecture, interiors and urban design
awards nearly every year since 1983.
In 2007, the United States Institute of The-
atre Technology (USITT), which is an inter-
nationally recognized theater organization,
and the Architecture Commission created a
new award for Outstanding Lifetime Achieve-
ment in Theatre Design. The jury (representing
all theatrical design disciplines: architecture,
theater design and acoustics) unanimously
selected Norman Pfeiffer and his partners
of HHPA as the first recipients of the distin-
guished theater design award.
