Business Challenges
Faced with increasing demands
from its Norwegian workforce for
Microsoft Lync due to a growing
use and reliance on mobile phones,
Lync’s mobile app for VoIP became
the focus of the Company’s
attention.
At the same time Subsea 7 was
facing growing teleconferencing
costs and the business case for
Lync’s conferencing solution quickly
became clear.
Solution
Subsea 7 commissioned Exactive to
carry out a pilot of Microsoft Lync
Enterprise Voice in their office in
Oslo, Norway. The pilot built on the
existing central Lync infrastructure,
adding a media gateway locally.
The Lync client was already on
all desktops but had not been
deployed as a conferencing solution.
Exactive advised on a conferencing
design, headsets, Lync certified SIP
trunks and training to provide a full
replacement for the many previous
subscription based services and an
optimal end user experience. The
pilot in Norway was extended to a
full Enterprise Voice Lync 2013 roll-
out to six new sites in Norway for
more than 900 employees. The
existing Cisco phones were removed
and Microsoft Lync is now the
primary telephone system in Subsea
7 in Norway.

Overview
Subsea 7 is one of the world’s leading global contractors in seabed-to-
surface engineering, construction and services to the offshore industry.
The Company provides technical solutions to enable the delivery of
complex projects in all water depths and challenging environments.
Due to a growing demand for cost effective converged voice, data and
teleconferences services, Exactive carried out a Lync voice pilot in the
Company’s offices in Oslo. The Company’s IT Department spotted an
opportunity to significantly reduce conferencing costs by using Lync
as a global conferencing solution. The pilot grew into the successful
deployment of Lync Enterprise Voice to more than 900 users in Norway.
