  4. There are two HUGE differences that capture a lot of what you have said. First, training is, by definition, an event. It might have pre-work and post-work to make it a longer event, but it is still an EVENT! Mentoring relationships are long-term, usually between 3 and 12 months, though I’ve seen formal relationships that last longer. And so, mentoring is a sustained learning process, with far greater opportunity for learning transfer.
