3. What is our Goal?
To create public art that will help
people help the earth.
This year, we will expand our audience to
include our families and friends, intensify
the effect of our work by working hard on
our pieces, and listen to what people
have to say about how our work affected
them.
6. Bansky
A British graffiti artist with classical
art training paints murals that make
a political statement. Sometimes he
uses words, other times there is no
need for text.
7. In August 2005, Banksy painted nine images on the Israeli West
Bank barrier, including an image of a ladder going up and over the
wall and an image of children digging a hole through the wall.[44]
[45].
13. Artist Andy Goldsworthy places natural items like leaves in
sculptural shapes to try to make people appreciate nature.
14. Let’s Start our 2009
Green Team Project!
We are going to be creating sculptures of the
earth out of recycled materials.
1.Decide on the Rules
2.Create your Design
3.Work with materials to see what they can do
4.Build your Design
5.Finish the work, making sure you look at your
design and also followed the class rules
15. Decide on the Rules: As a class, you will
decide on the criteria for how to grade this work
Suggestions:
Must use at least 4 different materials.
Must show 4 different textures.
Must use materials in a different way from how you
normally use them (you must change the shape by cutting
up, for ex)
Sculpture must be able to stand or hang on its own.
Sculpture must be strong and not fall apart or pieces fall off.
Has to have a message, but not written on it.
Has to show recycled materials were used.
No paint.
Parents and friends can help.
17. Collect your Materials:
Color – you can add color by gluing
on magazine clippings magazines
with those colors, or build messages
from words in magazines.
18. Collect your Materials:
Texture – you can add texture by
using things in a different way.
Cutting up a straw or plastic cup can
make scales or spikey circles on the
side of your sculpture. Glue the
small pieces on an area.
19. Collect your Materials:
Size – combine recycled materials to
get the overall shape you designed
in your sketch. Make sure it is
secure.
20. Build your Earth: Artist’s Rules
1. You must use recycled materials
2. Your design must have one 2”
round or square flat part in the
middle.
3. You must be able to get inside it
somehow.
4. It must look good on all sides.
21. Build your Earth: Important to
Remember:
If it does not look like your design,
you can redraw your plan to think
through new choices.
22. When the Artist Mrs. Heyden is here
on Friday, January 30, 2009:
Ask her your questions that you
write down as you do this
assignment.
Ideas for Questions for you to write:
1. What is the hardest part of this?
2. How do you feel about the
materials once they change?
3. Why is this so hard?
23. See you soon! I will help you work
with the materials YOU BRING IN
FOR FRIDAY.
See you soon! I’m
driving from
Milwaukee to see
you Friday,
January 30th
! Save
your questions for
