The following information is provided just to give you a chronology of the company’s development. Command Spanish ®, Inc. was founded in Huntsville, Texas in the late 1980s by Dr. Sam Slick, then a Spanish Professor at Sam Houston State University. Its first objective was to provide effective, short-term Spanish training to law enforcement personnel. The company’s first full edition manual (with cassettes, etc.) was Survival Spanish for Law Enforcement Personnel , which was published in 1992. The company continued to grow and produce additional public safety manuals (Jails, Corrections, EMTs) and the company headquarters were moved to Mississippi, where Dr. Sam Slick, president of CS, served as Foreign Language Department Chair at the University of Southern Mississippi. In 1995, Dr. Maryjane Dunn joined the company while still serving as Foreign Language Program Director at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska. Command Spanish ® expanded its programs to include business, health, education and other occupational sectors. In 1997 Command Spanish®, Inc. made the leap from being a product oriented company to a service oriented company. In that year the first “Teaching Occupational Spanish” seminars were offered and all manual and material sales were restricted to Official Registered Providers, Licensed Official Registered Providers, and Certified Instructors.
