have a natural tendency to be very collaborative

I turned down a promotion due to having a new baby
and not wanting to over commit. I have challenges
sometimes getting fully behind the person that was
promoted. He relies on me a lot for insight, advice
and recommendations which in turns lessens my
respect for his abilities. I would like to finally move
past this if possible.

As someone who is on the autism spectrum, I find it
hard at times to do well in extreme social situations and
also accurately reading others non-verbal
gestures/expressions. I work daily to appear as a
"normal" person because I know emotional intelligence
is much more important than my high IQ…

However, it's not easy for someone who is autistic and
because this is an invisible disability, people don't
realize I'm not trying to be rude or unsocial, it's just the
way my brain is wired.
What I want to know is if there a way for me to let
people know I'm autistic without just coming out and
telling them?
Notes de l'éditeur I don’t care what it says on your office door. A promotion can make you the “manager.” But leadership has nothing to do with your title, rank or position of authority… The days of the “manager” are over. You’ve got to be the LEADER. And more specifically, the type of leader I’m talking about when talk about the SENSEI––
These days, you won’t survive on just good enough. You’ve got to perform to your very best. And if your name is on the office door, your best is completely dependent on your ability to bring out the best in others.
Before you leave this room, my job is to make sure you are the Sensei––or inspire you to become one. What are the 3 most important things a leader MUST do? Take a few minutes and think about that question. I’ll wait! We’re choking on the research. Study after study confirms it. We don’t need another one to confirm it again.
I don’t care what it says on your office door. A promotion can make you the “manager.” But leadership has nothing to do with your title, rank or position of authority… CREDENTIALS–Two time dropout and drug abuser…Aren’t you glad you paid me to be here today? That’s what the most successful leaders do. And that’s what the Sensei has been doing for hundreds of years. Do you know the definition of Sensei? How can you grow without exposing yourself to new ideas, challenges and opportunities? Is there ever an absolute guarantee of success? How can you be CONFIDENT in your ability to perform unless you’ve been tested under fire? Do you ever FEAR sharing your ideas in public? Are you EVER afraid of failure? If NOT––then when is appropriate to consider exceptions? Sorry––hiding fear is dangerous. The absence of fear is STUPIDITY! How important is TRUST? How important is VULNERABILITY in building TRUST? Do you know EVERYTHING? How else to you get people to BUY IN or work in HARMONY? HOW important is recognition to YOU? Are you working ALONE? How can you SERVE them without KNOWING them? How do they know you CARE? How important is effective COMMUNICATION to your EFFECTIVENESS as a leader? Should you EVER stop learning, growing and developing? PERFECTION… Does growing as a PERSON help you grow as a LEADER? How important is mindset, attitude and character to the technical and management success of your organization? Where is MOST of the technical, intellectual, cultural and experiential capital in your organization? The C-Suite or the front lines? How many Black Belts does it take to screw in a light bulb? Beginner’s Mind Belt story … How? TRAINING and a thorough knowledge of TACTICS! You understand, as Tom Peters famously wrote, that “Leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders.”
As a Sensei Leader, you understand that leadership should not be restricted to those with authority, title or position. Sometimes your most effective leaders work on the front lines… Make your PEOPLE more powerful …
