• Note that question is not “What do I want to do”.
• Get the knowledge you need by asking what needs to be done, and take the
questions seriously.
• Once you know the to-do list, set priorities.
• Do one task at a time.
• The effective executives resets the priorities rather than moving on to no. two from
the original list.

• Ask what’s right for the enterprise:
• Don’t focus on what’s right for individuals (i.e. owners, investors, employees
or customers.)
• What is right for the organization as a whole isn’t always right for individual
stakeholders.
• Does not guarantee that right decisions will be made.
• Failure to ask the question virtually , it guarantees the wrong decision.
7. Convert Knowledge Into Action
• Develop action plans:
• Set a plan that specifies results and constraints compatible with the organization’s
goals.
• Revise your plan often to reflect new opportunities.
• Executives are doers.
• Action plans are the statement of intentions rather than commitments.
• It needs to be a system for checking results against expectations.
• Has to be the basis for executives to measure time.
9. Take Responsibility for Decisions
• Review decisions periodically (poor decisions can be corrected before it does real
damage).
• Most crucial and important decision : Hiring and Promotion of people
• Effective executives know and check this
• Non Performers to be transferred to other roles.
• Smart executives know their incompetent areas, and they simply delegate those areas.
• Decision are made at every levels.
10. Take Responsibility for Communicating
• Effective Executives share their plans and ask for feedbacks with colleagues, superiors,
subordinates and peers.
• Transparent flow of information.

11. Focus on Opportunities, not Problems
• Good Executives exploit opportunities to produce results.
• Opportunities like (Enterprise AS IS situation to outside situation)
• New technologies
• Product innovations
• New market structures
• Matching best people with best opportunities.

Harry true man used to be farmer and used to sell livestock for living. He later joined army and go involved into politics.
While Franklin de Roosevelt had just died.
compared to Franklin Harry Truman lived an illusive life.
It was a great challenge for Harry Truman to stand high upon the eye of his people.
He called up his senate/opposition/cabinet and gathered information about what needs to be done.
-He gathered information about foreign affairs and he later became one of the most knowledgeable person in froeign affairs
-He started Marshall plan to help post ww-II Europe again.
-It was also related to prevent communism to enter into Europe
-He also gave a go to Manhattan project to prevent long term war fair with Japan and enter into peace.
Effective executive does not start out with what I want to do but what needs to be done.
-no one knew about Harry Truman. He was a farmer and businessman and lived invisible life.
-no one knew about Harry till he joined politics in his 50's
-Rockefeller - made more able people work for him
-Effective can be learned , effective must be learned.

-Truman did not say no for one task to one person and yes to anther person for same task.He was realy trustworthy

1. It’s not good enough for you, the effective executive, to get things done. You must also get the right things done. By looking at the needs of the business, you have to determine where your contributions will make the largest impact, and then execute, delivering for the business what needed to be delivered.
The truly fortunate, and effective executives are those who can answer both of the above questions with the same answer. If what needs to be done matches what you want to do, you’ve found the work that is right for you.
