The document discusses several university film and media programs that appeal to the writer for different reasons. The University of Sunderland appeals most due to its balance of theory and practical elements, resembling the writer's college experience. The entry requirements are also manageable at 40 UCAS points. The writer believes the degree could help pursue a career in cinematography. Teesside University also offers in-depth practical experience but is farther away, requiring student accommodation. While the programs at Newcastle, Northern School of Art, and Northumbria also offer appealing aspects, the writer believes Sunderland is the best option due to travel considerations and course fit.

Film, media and theatre degree offers practical skills and career opportunities

3. Film and media at Newcastle is a wide range filled course with heavy practical film elements and writing in
journalism both being heavy and main parts of the course. Newcastle offers a place to enhance practical skills
in documentary film making skills and online communication and media analysis. The positive's for doing that
course that I would learnt and improve on my documentation skills in writing and practical elements being in a
professional studio/class I can learn communication skills as well whilst making the projects. The
requirements for getting into are different for everyone since some can get better offers tailored to their
situation. However saying that once receiving an offer Newcastle would consider qualifications such as A
levels, International baccalaureate, Access qualifications, BTEC qualifications, since Newcastle is a fantastic
university I would say the average requirements are Maths and English grade C/4 and one level 3
qualification. Newcastle university ranks in the league tables amongst the highest of universities sitting at
number one in the uk as of 2022 and global top 125 global university’s. If I managed to get an offer from
Newcastle and accept it and learn from the course I think I would take that degree into practical elements into
me being a DOP which is my dream in media being a director photography is something ive wanted to do and
improve on and not only will Newcastle do just that. The degree will help me with opportunities within my
career after finishing the course. As for accommodation I have thought about moving away because
Newcastle is pretty far from where I live but in terms of accommodation it isn’t as far as other university’s so I
wouldn’t consider doing or needing accommodation travel might be a problem at the start but finding a
professional time to work around the university’s start and finish time is something I'm more than willing to do.
Finally if I wanted to go to this university once receiving the offer I would need Two main distinction's from B1
and B2 this would be something not necessarily difficult but time consuming since I would be trying to perfect
my work. However I am open for aiming for DD if it means a guaranteed spot.
4. Film, media and theatre performance course allows you to study a broad range of create arts
disciplines across all aspects of film, media and theatre. There you will work practically and
intellectually to acquire key transferable skills such as effective communication, teamwork, time
management, research and digital literacy and more. Also you will learn tons of practical elements in
theatre and media based grounded student led creative projects. The positive’s for doing this course I
would say are the mix of the three some courses focuses on two or one but Northumbria has
combined them all into one unit where you learn tons of transferable and mandated skills for the
future. This course has tons of options in practical and writing as well. The entry requirements for this
course are 80 points UCAS tariff point this can include from: A – level’s, T level, BTEC diploma, Irish
Highers and more. As well as 80 tariff points you would need Maths and English minimum grade 4/C
or an equivalent. Northumbria ranks top 500th world university across the league rankings in 2023 and
as well top 100th university ranking in the young university student driven course ranking 2022. If I
got this degree I would advance a career into practical elements such as DOP. This would be my
official career plan overall and Northumbria's media degree would help me achieve my dream.
Accommodations is something that would be heavily considered when going to this university’
Northumbria is very far away from me so if I wanted to choose this university I would have no choice
but to move away and go through with student accommodation this is something that I am more than
happy to do Northumbria's film, media and theatre course is one of the best I have ever seen and
working around that to have the opportunity to be apart of the course would be amazing nonetheless.
Considering potential grades and what I would need to get in would be DD across B1 and B2 This is
because Northumbria isn’t local and my grades would need to be higher for the type of course it is.
5. The northern school of art offers practical heavy elements and making those your own led
creative projects. In this course you will create screen and theatre productions. Showcasing
skills and abilities in new and original content for film and theatre practise. On this course we
would use cutting edge technology to assist our productions as well which is great. The
positive's is everything in between the course the course advertises using adapt technology and
film equipment to assist and help our projects other courses didn’t offer or say that and for me
that is important and great to hear. The entry requirements for northern school of are 80 tariff
points As well as a grade 4/C in maths and English it’s a fantastic university so this is expected.
If I were to get a degree from this amazing course I would follow a career into film and being a
main director this is something I have also though about besides being a DOP, This course
would fit more in line with becoming a director. Accommodations is something that would be a
main part of the northern school of art I would have to move as well on campus because travel
alone would be a problem and would interfere with my work so living on campus would make it
better for me to adjust to work loads and just managing day to day living as well. If I wanted to
go for this course what I need would be a maths grade 4/C and a level 3 qualification's to get in
that would mean specifically DM B1 and B2 I could either get a merit in B1 or B2 and vice versa
still would be a lot of work if I wanted to go to northern school of art. I like the idea overall of this
course but its personally not for me for travel and living costs alone it would be a lot of work to
adjust to get around the course and there is similar course’s out there that are similar or include
the heavy production elements I'm looking for in a course.
6. In this course personal professional, academic and production skills from studying film and media
theory alongside practical – based modules in film production. As well as having opportunities to do
researched basesd placement projects, write a script and produce video essay’s. The positive's for
doing that course would be the balance between media theory and professional practical elements this
is great for me because I have been doing college for 3 years and this is exactly like that it would be
comfortable but amazing opportunity to see how the work differs from here. The course requirements
would be a minimum of three level 2 qualifications (NVQ, GCSE or equivalent) and a minimum of 40
UCAS tariff points or 40 UCAS points from a level 3 qualification( A or AS levels, T levels, BTEC
certificates). The university of Sunderland is ranked amongst top 50 universities across the UK, rising
42 spaces in the last year. Sunderland is an optimal course that as improved each year and continues
to do so. If I got a degree from this course I would follow a path into being DOP or having a major
element in photography/cinematography in film this is something that is becoming a dream and
Sunderland university’s course would push my career into that role. Accommodation is something I
have considered because I needed to see what course it is and how it fits to me personally luckily I
have the option not to get or find student accommodation I live in Sunderland and I am close to the
university so overall it this uni has the best travel options for me. Considering the grades I need it
would be 40 UCAS points from a level 3 qualification this is really good for me since its manageable
amount of points I can achieve. If I wanted to achieve this though I would need merits across all of my
projects (B1 and B2) this is possible because I have been working at a merit level since starting this
year and I can even get beyond that. This course/university would be the best option out of all of them
because of the travel aspect and the course itself I like what the course offers and the opportunities
7. Teesside has a in depth practical element heavy course with In this course have access's to industry
– standard facilities including two working television studios, a fully operational radio station, digital
film production equipment, grading and edit suites as well as access to a full range of software
throughout the campus. The positive’s for doing this course would be adapting communication skills,
teamwork, editing, film, radio, hosting, recording, broadcasting, television and way more overall skills
you would learn in the time you are on the course. The course’s requirements are 96 – 112 UCAS
tariff points from any combination of a level 3 qualification. Teeside university was ranked in 2021
and 2022 95th best university in the world and in 2023 it had jumped up by ranking by 1 spot to reach
94th position. If I got a degree at teeside I would probably follow a career in radio or television since
the elements at the university are so heavy on that part anyway so I think being apart of that for 3+
years would make me want to land a job/career in television production I am open to this Tv is
something that is apart of media and is something I would love to experiment and be apart of.
Teesside is very far away from me so I would have to move away since the accommodation would
help massively within my course I would have to move away due to travel and getting on bus, train,
car would be a massive day to day problem that would interfere with my work load and overall time
management. If I wanted to get onto this course it would have to be DDM for my projects I could
ease up a little for one project and aim above merits but I would try to get DDD because it would
help me more overall within the course anyway. Overall this course is fantastic for its practical
elements but its not I would want necessarily I want more mainstream, film, areas to explore and
adapt and travel and living is big apart of this university and its lot unlike some of the others.

11. WHAT UNIVERSITIES APPEAL? WHY? (E.G. REPUTATION,
LEAGUE TABLES, SPECIFIC
COURSE, FACILITIES)
University's and academic appeals are important to keep everything in order and making sure
everyone is on track. Reputation is very important due to the face on students and university's
its what brings in university's success. As well as league tables across all university’s happen
to make sure yearly that everything is happening the way it is supposed to be and checking
students and staffs progress and work. Well in Sunderland university's they want good time
management and ethic when it comes to reputation but that being said that goes for all
university's that I'm applying to each one want to have good appeal.
