1. Primary Research Analysis
In order to make my music video one that people will enjoy I conducted a questionnaire and
uploaded it to www.surveymonkey.com. I then emailed my questionnaire to many people
and also chose to upload it to www.facebook.com so my social media friends could take it
and in return I get a bigger range of responses thus making my questionnaire results more
accurate.
My first question ‘Do you enjoy
Drum & Bass?’ was a good first
question to ask due to my video
being of the Drum & Bass
genre, then I will know how
many of the people that took
the questionnaire to be my
target audience. As you can see
from the picture to the right,
85.71% answered yes.
My second question ‘What sort of settings would you like
to see?’ was a question that would allow me to see what
sort of places people would prefer, whether it be simply
‘outside’ or ‘indoors’ or a more definite answer of ‘pub,
house, club, warehouse’. I also added an ‘other’ answer, in
which participants can give me their own idea of a location
if they like; this question was also notably multiple choice.
Looking at my results, ‘warehouse’ scored 71% and ‘club ‘
scored 42%. These are the two highest scoring locations
and I have decided to try and implement some sort of
warehouse or club into my video in order to reach my
target audience.
2. My third question ‘Would you prefer a concept,
narrative or performance based music video?’ was a
question that was a general question, and as expected
the ‘concept’ scored the highest percentage coming in
at 71%. Again I am going to listen to my participants and
lean my music video more to the concept rather than
performance which I originally planned.
My fourth question ‘would you prefer a fast
paced or slow paced music video?’ was one
to decipher if I should stick to my idea of a
fast paced video or go slow, and as from
looking at the results (85% fast) I am going to
stick to this idea. The main reason for this is
due to my chosen track being fast paced
itself.
My fifth question ‘What types of shots would appeal to
you the most?’ gathered interesting results, as you can
see, ‘mid shots’ ‘POV shots’ ‘Long shots’ and ‘high
shots’ all scored an equal percentage of 42.86%. This is
proving that my intended target audience would much
rather see a variety of mixed shots rather than one or
two types of camera angles and I am going to take this
into account when I come to filming my scenes.
