8. 6 Section Header Polydeck Screen Corporation6 Screen Media: Polydex®
& Rubberdex®
Polydeck Screen Corporation
Polydex® represents our line of modular polyurethane screen
media. Polyurethane offers the most options, not only in terms
of screen openings, but also in the integration of performance
enhancing features like dams, restricted flow bars, skid bars,
and deflectors. These features are not glued on but actually
molded into, and a part of the panel itself (see pages 8 &
9). Poly panels are typically the best choice for wet or wash
applications. Polyurethane material variations include:
STD - Our most common polyurethane compound, it’s the
right choice for most general applications.
85 durometer, Shore A. Effective between -5º F. (-20º C.)
and 150º F. (66º C.).
LD - A softer poly compound for applications that require
the screen panel surface to be flexible in order to prevent
blinding caused by sticky materials.
65 durometer, Shore A.
FL - A special formulation for applications where microbial
action degrades the standard polyurethane structure.
Extreme FL - For applications with persistent microbial or
hydrolytic breakdown of poly even after using the FL poly
formulation, this material offers a more potent punch.
Flexi Rubber
Rubberdex® represents our line of modular rubber screen
media. Rubber performs best in dry applications, and typically
offers the longest wear life of any screen media material in the
most difficult, aggressive scalping applications. Rubber panels
are also effective in reducing noise levels by up to 9 decibels
when compared to steel media, about a 50% reduction as
recorded by the human ear.
PD65 - Our standard rubber compound that is best for
high-wear or heavy feed rate applications like scalping.
Effective between -60º F. (-51º C.) and 150º F. (66º C.).
PD40 - Softer “Flexi”
rubber that’s proven
extremely effective in
solving the toughest
blinding problems.
Effective between
-40º F. (-40º C.) and
150º F. (70º C.).
PD60 - A “middle of the road” blend for applications where
a softer material is needed to discourage blinding, but where
loading may be too heavy for our PD40 Flexi rubber.
PD60HT - Used in situations like slag where screen panels
are exposed to high temperatures.
Effective up to 203º F. (95º C.).
FRDX60 (Ferrodex™) - Special formulation that extends
the wear life in certain coarse, wet screening applications.
Notable by the red coloration of the rubber panels.
What is “Durometer?”
Durometer is a measure
of surface resistivity or
the resistance of plastics
toward indentation.
Polydeck uses the Shore A
scale in selecting plastic
and rubber compounds
for its screen panels. The
higher the number, the
harder the material.
9. Your Trusted Screening Resource Section Header 7Your Trusted Screening Resource Screen Media: Armadex™ 7
Description
High performance, extreme duty screening applications
have historically posed challenges for plant operations. Wire
cloth wears out quickly and modular synthetic media is only
marginally effective in dealing with the sheer volume and
weight of feed material. Bolt-down rubber has often proved to
be the most effective solution to meet these challenges.
Now with Armadex™, you get a new level of performance along
with the quality, service, and reliability you’ve come to expect
from Polydeck.

Heavy Duty Dewatering Panel
This screen panel was designed to carry the weight of thick bed
depths and heavy loads. With its deep bridges, heavy duty steel
inserts, and extra lateral supports, this panel adds the kind of
stability to your screen that could eliminate the need for added
sub-structure. At 40mm thick and with slot widths as small as
0.1mm, this panel is a dewatering workhorse.
The heavy duty dewatering panel derives much of its strength
from a more substantial steel insert featuring two lateral center
bars instead of one.
Available as slot with flow or slot against flow.

Angle Clip
Angle clips are 6” long pieces of formed
steel that can be bolted to the side plate
of the machine. Polyurethane wedges
are then driven between the wedge clip
and the side wear plate in the direction
of material flow to secure the side wear
plate down upon the screen panels on
both sides of the machine. This option
can be used with either polyurethane or
UHMW side wear plates.
Universal Wedge Clip and Wedge
The universal wedge clip is bolted or
welded to the side plate of the vibrating

driven between it and the side liner to
ensure that the outside screen panels
stay firmly in place.
Bolt-On
Various configurations are possible
based on each individual situation. Bolt
patterns are typically custom-drilled to
fit the screen deck bolt spacing.
Polydeck also offers a slotted wear plate
option to ensure a snug fit to the deck
surface and allows the ability to adjust
its position if thicker/thinner panels are
used in the future.

To request your evaluation, contact your Regional Manager or fill
out our on-line request at www.polydeckscreen.com/evaluation.
Utilizing high-tech electronic instruments and industry
expertise, all aspects of a screen’s operation are measured
and evaluated with a Screen Performance Evaluation.
From the findings, a comprehensive report is produced with
recommendations to increase reliability, remedy problems, and
bring the screen up to its peak screening performance.
A Screen Performance Evaluation Records:
• A screen’s orbits at each spring base and at each vibrator.
• A screen’s motor speed in RPMs.
• A screen’s harmful deflections
along the Z axis.
• A screen’s material travel rates.
• Any movement of the structure
supporting the screen.
A Screen Performance Evaluation Report includes:
• A screen’s G force (Acceleration), its stroke (Displacement),
its deflections (aberrations in its movements).
• A screen’s critical frequencies - which help determine the
screen’s optimal speed and stroke.
• The integrity of the structure supporting the screen.
• The effect variances in RPMs, G force, Velocity, Displacement,
and Travel Rate that may have on a screen’s efficiency.
• Recommended adjustments to a screen’s operating
parameters and/or media to maximize its operating potential
for its particular application.

If you’re designing a new processing plant or making upgrades
to an existing one, consider using Polydeck as your “screening
consultants” to maximize your operation. We help you “dial in”
your screen media choices and identify solutions that will bring
you the greatest potential ROI.
Timing: The earlier you can include us in your planning, the
more likely we can identify areas of cost savings and help you
justify capital expenditures.
Why Polydeck? Traditional screen application reviews
incorporate basic flow sheet programs to arrive at predictive
solutions. Although this approach is adequate for simple
applications, it leaves out many variables that can significantly
affect the results. Polydeck’s evaluations are much more
comprehensive due to the decades of screening experience we
bring and our whole plant approach.
Along with AggFlow and comprehensive data collection,
we utilize PolyFlow™, our proprietary software tool that
helps accurately access our media’s performance in various
applications. Polyflow™ utilizes specific screen set-up and
material characteristics to ensure proper media selection.

24. 22 Section Header Polydeck Screen Corporation22 Converting Your Screen to Polydeck Polydeck Screen Corporation
1. HOLD PLANNING MEETING & LOCK-OUT
To help ensure the safety of the
installation team, it’s a good idea
to hold a short meeting to review
installation procedures before
starting the conversion process.
Before any work begins, always
be sure to lock-out the screen
and all related equipment.
2. REMOVE SIDE CLAMP RAILS
Unbolt and remove the side
clamp rails and, on a double
crowned deck, the center hold-
down bar is also removed.
3. LIFT OUT WIRE CLOTH SECTIONS
Next, the wire cloth sections are
lifted out. Inspect the sub-frame
for excessive wear to ensure that
the existing deck frame is in
serviceable shape. Remove crown
bar rubber from the top of the
bucker bars to expose the area
that will be worked on.
4. REMOVE BUCKER BARS
Use a cutting torch to cut away
the bucker bars from the cross
members, thereby removing them
from the frame. Be careful not
to damage the cross members
during this process.
5. GRIND FLAT
Grind off any excess welds left
on the cross members that
interfere with the 12” on-center
placement of the stringer rails.
Once this is done, you’re now
ready to install your PipeTop II™
conversion rails.
7. ENSURE CENTERING AND SQUARING
When positioning the assembly
sections, it’s critical that they
be centered and squared within
the machine to ensure that the
screen panels fit accurately and
securely.
Converting a Screen Deck from Existing
Media to Polydeck’s Modular PipeTop
II™ Stringer System.
With a little preplanning, converting a screen deck to take
advantage of the versatility and open area of the Polydeck
PipeTop II™ system can be done efficiently and quickly. The
steps below describe converting a screen deck from side
tension wire cloth to PipeTop II™, but the same basic steps
can be followed for converting other deck types as well.
6. MOVE JIGGED ASSEMBLIES INTO PLACE
Our jigged frame assemblies will
help ensure accurate spacing and
a simpler, safer installation.
Move the jigged assembly
sections into place centered on
the cross members and carefully
aligned with each other and with
the side plates of the screen.
For decks with crowned sub-
frames, coped stringer assemblies
can be custom made.
See pages 12-13 for a complete
list of available frame types.
8. ATTACH SHIM STRIPS
If necessary to ensure uniform
height or proper fit, flat bar or
angle iron shim strips should be
welded to the side ledge of the
deck frame.
Use extreme care during this step.
25. Your Trusted Screening Resource Section Header 23Your Trusted Screening Resource Converting Your Screen to Polydeck 23
9. TACK FRAMES INTO PLACE
Once alignment has been
verified, the frame sections
should be clamped down and
tack-welded into place.
11. PERFORM FINAL WELDING
If no adjustments are necessary,
all screen panels should be
removed and final welding of all
jigged stringer rails should be
completed.
12. INSTALL SCREEN PANELS
Now the screen panels are ready to be installed.
A light application of soapy water to lubricate the sides and fastening
areas of the screen panels will make the installation easier. Should you
decide to use another type of lubricant, please be sure that petroleum-
based products are never used on rubber screen panels.
14. WELD END PLATE
In some cases, the final step is
to weld an end plate onto the
discharge end of the screen
deck, thereby completing the
installation of your Polydeck
PipeTop II™ system.
13. ATTACH SIDE WEAR PLATES
Once all panels have been
installed, side wear plates are
attached to the sides of the
vibrating screen. Depending
on the application or vibrating
screen design, various options
are available for attaching side
liners.
It’s important that the screen
panels are resting on the shim
strips and that the side wear
plates are firmly pressed down
on the screen panels to prevent
panels from working loose.
With your modular Polydeck PipeTop II™ system you’ll benefit
from a flat surface for even product distribution; you won’t
need to inspect your screen panels for wear as often; modular
screen panel replacement will take minutes, not hours; you’ll
have a range of screen design options to eliminate plugging and
blinding; and your operation will be noticeably quieter.
View animated steps of a conversion at polydeckscreen.com/conversion
10. VERIFY ALIGNMENT
At this point, install some screen
panels to check positioning
before beginning final welding of
the frame sections.
Screen panels should be installed
on the feed, center joint, and
discharge sections to confirm
alignment of all frame sections
and shim strips.
Continue to measure for accuracy
and alignment throughout the
installation process.

Calculating Open Area of Modular Synthetic Screen Media
Synthetic screen media manufacturers of standard border screen
panels often claim their screen media has “the highest open
area in the industry”. Since it’s obviously impossible for more
than one company to make that claim, make sure your supplier
is using the formula below to ensure that “true open area” is
being evaluated.

Once the open area of each screen panel is calculated based on the
entire screen panel surface, it becomes obvious that Polydeck’s Maxi
screen panel design has more open area than competitive designs of
identical dimensions.
Or, if you prefer, when comparing panels with the same size
opening, a simpler, yet equally effective measure is to COUNT THE
HOLES!
Make sure the calculation is based on the
ENTIRE surface area of the screen panel,
not just the area where the holes are.

even eliminate fine particle blinding problems
in wet and/or humid conditions.
Need Consistency?
Polydeck Injection Molding.
All our screen panels are injection molded
to ensure accurate openings and consistent
construction panel after panel after panel.
Need to Reduce Noise?
Polydeck Materials.
Our rubber and polyurethane screen panels
drastically reduce noise levels, sometimes as
much as 50%, compared to steel media.
