• Gain exposure to any blind spots or previous
efforts

UNITS
• Reach out to Sandia District Units to identify
“Spanish enabled” units.
• Spanish speaking leaders and volunteers will help
mitigate language as a barrier to entry for
potential scouts with Spanish speaking parents.
(Often times, youth will speak English due to
attending school; however, some parents will not)

ALLY
PROGRAM
• Reach out to Sandia District units and the
community at large to identify Spanish speaking
allies that can act as liaisons and a resource to
Spanish speaking families
• Allies are intended to help:
• Get Spanish speaking parents up to speed in
Scouting
• Reduce the intimidation factor of acronyms and
ceremony
• Bridge the communication gap between unit
leaders and Spanish speaking families
7. GOAL 4:
SPANISH FOR
SCOUTERS
WORKSHOP
• Plan and host a “Spanish for Scouters” workshop
to help Sandia District unit leaders and volunteers
gain access to basic Spanish relating to Scouting
activities
• Words and phrases will relate to outdoor safety
• Spanish for Scouters will be hosted by Troop 166
at Faith Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM
• Event to be publicized via Facebook, E-mail, and
through District communications

• Develop and distribute a Spanish Language
Playbook document to Sandia District Units
• Contents:
• Spanish enabled unit list
• Spanish speaking ally roster
• Best practices for unit communications with
regards to Spanish speaking families
