installed in the field. Centrilift ESPs are robust systems built to last in harsh
environments where gas, heat, abrasives, viscosity and corrosive elements threat-
en performance.
A division of Baker Hughes Inc., Centrilift is headquartered in Claremore,
Oklahoma. However, with manufacturing, service and sales facilities in over
30 countries, Centrilift is truly a global operation.
Applications Engineering
The first step in designing an ESP for optimum performance in a specific well,
particularly in a new field, is an applications engineering review of all well data.
Custom system design is employed to produce an ESP tailored to the operator’s
run life, production and economic targets. Centrilift is uniquely equipped with
the people, design tools and experience to consistently deliver ESP systems fine
tuned to specific applications.
Project Management
ESP systems can become complex designs when sophisticated control systems,
gas or water separation systems, down-hole monitoring equipment and valves or
packers are added. Various deployment methods also need to be analyzed for the
most efficient and cost effective installation. Centrilift has the experience and
commitment to follow each project from design, through manufacturing and
testing, to shipping and ultimately installation and service. Centrilift delivers a
project management package that includes coordinating third party vendors,
monitoring inventory, scheduling, maintenance and meeting deadlines.

system efficiency through a systematic process to optimize economic production
rates and manage total lifting costs. The scope of the Optimization Services
Group extends from Centrilift manufacturing facilities in the areas of inventory,
assembly, testing, tear down and repair to the field where ESP experts are
focused on installation, set up, start up, operations and system efficiency.
The Optimization Services Group examines both ESP performance and
production optimization. System performance is enhanced through applications
engineering, equipment data analysis, failure statistics and analysis and problem
solving. Production is optimized via drawdown management, water manage-
ment, well monitoring and automation and well data analysis.

3. AutographPC® with the Simulator is the only ESP design software
that demonstrates how changing conditions impact an ESP
in real and accelerated time. The Simulator adds the time variable
to sizing, illustrating the dynamics of the well in conjunction with
the pump operating point. Critical, dynamic conditions during
start-up and well drawdown are revealed—a unique advantage
of AutographPC.
The Simulator can model dozens of events to analyze and trou-
bleshoot ESP performance and well conditions. Time can be com-
pressed using the Simulator so well conditions and production
that occurs over days or weeks can be modeled in minutes. For
instance, productivity or water cut changes can be modeled to pre-
dict future pump performance. As a troubleshooting tool, it can be
used to match current operating conditions and identify problems
like tubing leaks, pump wear, high motor temperature and gas-
lock, among others.

Centrilift leads the industry in centrifugal pump research and
application design for harsh well environments, including: High
GOR and high viscosity fluids, abrasives, corrosives and high
temperatures. Centrilift manufactures radial flow stages, mixed
flow stages and multiple severe service configurations to meet
the demands of any well conditions. Centrilift patented abrasion
resistant pump designs provide cost-effective solutions for a wide
range of abrasive fluid production.
Stage design is the heart of a submersible pump. Centrilift
combines a wealth of engineering experience with cutting-edge
computer design and extensive testing to provide a constantly
evolving line of ESPs. This commitment results in tougher pumps
for longer run life as well as more efficient designs that lower
lifting costs.
For wells where high levels of gas present a problem, the MVP™
pump is the answer. Its unique patented vane design effectively
handles fluids with higher contents of free gas, prevents gas
locking and maximizes lift compared to conventional ESP systems.
MVP pumps can be installed independently; as charge pumps
for a standard ESP pump; or in conjunction with a gas separator
to produce wells with over 90% free gas.
The Best-in-Class Centurion™ pump line features an efficient
pump stage design that produces more head than any other stage
in the industry. In equal conditions, Centurion pumps produce
a given amount of fluid with fewer stages, shorter pumps and less
horsepower than any other pump of its kind.
Up-to-date research assures accurate correlations in AutographPC®
,
the Centrilift system sizing, selection and simulation software
program. Accurate data is vital when selecting the most cost
effective ESP system for any well environment.

4. In 1978 Centrilift designed the first centrifugal gas separator for
oilfield applications. Centrilift’s latest release, the GasMaster™
gas separator, redefines the gas handling limits of ESP systems.
Historically, multi-phase fluid wells have been challenging for
ESPs; however, Centrilift’s new design maximizes production
from wells with high free gas content.
GasMaster is an extensively researched and tested gas separator
design that raises the total flow rate through the separator into the
pump while providing improved separation efficiency. The new
high angle vane auger design, along with the re-designed intake
and discharge head assemblies for improved efficiency and reliabili-
ty, are the keys for enhanced gas handling – providing higher two
phase fluid flow and pressure increase. Higher pressure in the gas
separator chamber provides more energy to push higher volumes
of gas out into the well annulus, eliminating gas locking and
extending the application range of ESP systems in multi-phase
fluid wells.

Down-hole Sensors
Centrilift offers down-hole sensors for use with ESP equipment
in oilfield, water, mining and other applications. Down-hole
monitoring is an effective method of accurately measuring fluid
temperatures and maintaining established well pressure while
optimizing injection rates and reserve recovery. Without this
critical information, system failures and associated workover costs
can have a substantial impact on a field’s economic performance.
Down-hole sensors allow operators to reduce resources allocated
to well monitoring while increasing reliability within a field.
“Pump off” protection increases run life and decreases well
management costs by preventing system operation in unfavorable
conditions.
Centinel™ down-hole sensors measure
pump intake pressure, intake fluid temper-
ature and motor temperature. This sensor
provides cost-effective options for improving well surveillance,
reducing maintenance costs and facilitating data collection
and analysis.
WellLIFT™, Centrilift’s newest down-hole
sensor is designed to offer a new genera-
tion of user benefits. The WellLIFT system
measures seven down-hole parameters: Intake pressure, fluid tem-
perature, motor winding temperature, gauge electronics tempera-
ture and vibration on both the X and Y axis, discharge pressure
and discharge temperature. In addition to the down-hole parame-
ters, 17 surface and diagnostic parameters are reported, allowing
operators a higher level of well management than is currently avail-
able with any other comms-on power system. A key advantage of
the WellLIFT sensor is a constant four second intake pressure
recording while additional parameters are continually measured at
24 second cycles.
Interfacing WellLIFT data is relatively simple. WellLIFT data
interfaces with a Modbus unit, which collects the data from the
high voltage choke panel and publishes it to set addresses. A
remote data communications module (RDCM) then polls the
Modbus interface unit and passes it on to the CITIBus™ for
viewing on a Graphic Control System (GSC) display.
Well management costs can be further reduced by remote well
monitoring and control through SCADA systems and via the
Internet. Centrilift down-hole sensors are available as stand-alone
GCS compatible units or as an optional expansion model
for GCS Electrospeed variable speed drives
WellLinkSM
is a comprehensive well data distribution, retrieval
and analysis service, offering complete data acquisition, display,
control and analysis of ESP surface and down-hole systems. Well
data can be accessed online with a standard web browser using
the WellLink Service.
espGlobal™ is a low earth orbit communi-
cation device for remote data acquisition.
espGlobal will work over any distance or
terrain anywhere in the world, providing two way communication
via one or multiple devices. This tool offers remote management
of ESP systems.
espVision™ is Centrilift’s web-based mon-
itoring system and can be used with or
without a SCADA system. When no
SCADA system is available, espVision provides an end to end,
remotely hosted SCADA system accessible through a secure web
log-in, offering clients the advantage of SCADA without the sup-
port and maintenance. For wells with an existing SCADA system,
espVision provides real-time data collection and characterization
from the client’s data server via the Internet or private network
connection.
espExpert™, Centrilift’s new real-time data
analysis software, provides a mechanism to
merge well data with AutographPC®
to
enhance system analysis and help optimization engineers under-
stand down-hole conditions and compare those conditions to the
original system sizing. The system allows Centrilift experts to
change the well parameters or ESP performance to match the well
data via a user friendly graphical interface.

5. From ten horsepower in 41
⁄2-in. casing to 2000 horsepower in 85

casing, Centrilift manufactures the widest range of ESP motors.
Centrilift rugged motors are designed tough for harsh and
extreme temperature environments.
Centrilift begins by manufacturing and insulating the magnet
wire to specifications that surpass industry standards. Throughout
the magnet wire manufacturing, every foot of the wire is repeatedly
spark-tested at voltages 50% higher than industry standards to
identify and eliminate all defects.
The proprietary motor winding procedure is carried out in a
clean-room environment. Again, each foot of finished wire
is cleaned and monitored for shorts, faults or potential damage
during the entire winding process. Each phase receives multiple
surge testing at voltages above industry standards with test equip-
ment specially designed for ESP construction requirements.
Centrilift fills the slot sections and voids in the windings and
laminations with epoxy, which eliminates wire vibration, shorts
and potential hot spots from the uneven heat transfer of conven-
tional windings. Thermal heat characteristics of the epoxy material
are superior to varnish or oil. Molded end fixtures further protect
the winding end turns during assembly or disassembly procedures
as well as from vibration during installation and operation.
Centrilift’s patented T-ring bearings allow extremely simple
and straightforward assembly that is unequalled in the industry.
T-ring bearings with proprietary, specially-formulated elastomers
eliminate rotation during start-up and thermal cycling, while
maintaining a perfectly centered and damped position.
When assembly is complete, each motor is tested on the
automated horizontal test bench. During testing, motor oil is
circulated through high grade filters, removing particles down
to one micron in size. This enhanced filtration helps eliminate
potential problems and increases run life.
Epoxy allows Centrilift motors to withstand extreme temperatures.

6. Centrilift seal sections have earned a reputation for excellence
in some of the world’s most demanding applications where the
equipment is simultaneously exposed to harsh environments and
extremely high thrust loads.
Seal sections contain expansion chambers that continuously
equalize the motor oil to the wellbore fluid pressure throughout
the life of the motor. Seals also protect motors from well fluid
contamination while supporting the pump shaft thrust load.
Thrust bearing lubrication is critical, so Centrilift uses only
top-grade synthetic lubricants with high dielectric strength for
maximum performance and reliability.
Inside the seal, a centrifugal pump circulates oil through a heat
exchanger section and filter screen. The cool, clean oil is then
directed onto the thrust bearing pads. This distinct Centrilift
advantage provides better-lubricated, cooler-running bearings and
longer bearing life.
Centrilift seals are now available with SealLast bags. This
technology offers higher temperature capability than traditional
HSN bags, improving protection for the motor and increasing
reliability.
O-rings are vital to sealing function and Centrilift has
developed CL-180, a specially formulated elastomer that
provides a vast improvement in sealing capability over traditional
elastomer O-rings.
Centrilift seals are designed with a short axial-span between
bar stock components, providing better rotational stability and
less vibration. They also feature a redundant check valve system
to greatly improve the reliability of the expansion bag chambers.
When a Centrilift seal goes down-hole, a motor has the best
possible protection for a long run life.

dict future pump performance.

Up-to-date research assures accurate correlations in AutographPC®
,
the Centrilift system sizing, selection and simulation software
program. Accurate data is vital when selecting the most cost
effective ESP system for any well environment.

worldwide. These procedures are based on decades of
experience discovering and following “best practices”.
To ensure that all field service teams meet the Centrilift stan-
dard of excellence, Global Field Service Training Centers in the
U.S. and U.K. provide a structured certification program to train
engineers in every aspect of ESP systems. This ensures that all field
service personnel are compliant with health and safety require-
ments and competent in their specialized jobs.
A Commitment to Safety and the
Environment
Every Centrilift field service engineer earns an HS&E Passport
upon successfully completing the comprehensive Baker Hughes
Safety Training Program. HS&E training is an ongoing process for
all Centrilift employees. Field service engineers receive additional
training focused on field environments and specific customer
requirements.

Centrilift offers high quality education and training programs,
both for Centrilift associates who design, build and service
products and for customers. A 13,600 square foot, modern
training facility in Claremore includes three media-equipped
classrooms, two computer labs and a shop training area. The
new Aberdeen Training Centre is an additional resource
to meet the training needs of Eastern Hemisphere locations.
Centrilift educational development programs train over
500 employees and customers annually in over 100 different
training events in field locations as well as Centrilift's training
centers.
Centrilift is the only electrical submersible pumping (ESP) system provider that
designs and manufactures the complete ESP system, including the submersible
pump, motor and seal as well as surface control systems and power cable.
Centrilift also provides gas separators; sizing, modeling and predictive software;
down-hole monitoring equipment; and remote well communication systems.
The system is an arsenal designed to lower customers’ total cost of ownership.
People also are a critical part of the equation at Centrilift. Product design,
applications engineering, optimization services, project management and global
field service are integral parts of a system designed to increase run life and
improve operator profits. Centrilift engineers are experts in the ESP industry
and hold a growing number of performance-related patents for an ever-evolving
line of products.
Every Centrilift ESP system is designed for a specific well and tested before it is
installed in the field.
Optimization Services
Centrilift’s Optimization Services Group is focused on delivering improved
system efficiency through a systematic process to optimize economic production
rates and manage total lifting costs.
